Mt Sterling prepares for GOP campaign opener in 1936 Ohio

Mt Sterling Madison County Ohio readies a September 10 campaign opener for Bricker Governor and Landon presidential run. A 20 acre oak grove will host the event with 40 acres for parking, a 50 by 60 foot platform, and a large barbecue. About 25 deputies will police the site as bands and glee clubs perform for a statewide radio hooked crowd.

Adams Carr Wedding Ties Amelia to Somerville Look of Nuptials

Miss Oneita Adams of Amelia wed Edward Carr of Somerville on Saturday August 22 at 5 o'clock in M. E. H. parsonage North College Hill with Rev Clifford Stearns officiating. The bride wore white silk crepe and tea roses. A reception followed at the bride's mother Mrs Comdace Adams home in Amelia with relatives. Attending relatives included Mr and Mrs Russell Adams of Indianapolis and Mr and Mrs Parker Adams of Hamlet.

Mt Holly School Annual Reunion At School Grounds

Former pupils and teachers of Mt Holly school will hold their annual reunion at the school grounds on Sunday August 30. The event offers a basket dinner a good program and plenty of refreshments with a note that Wi Turton of Lebanon is ideal and Mrs Aileen Lytle Siegle is secretary.

County planners to estimate road repairs and retreading

At a county commissioners meeting the county surveyor was ordered to prepare estimates for road work. Plans include repairing the Route 52 access to Chile and retreading segments on Loveland Milford Road from Creagerville, Jackson Pike near the school, and Owensville Belfast Road north of Owensville.

Batavia School Set to Open September 14

The Batavia Public School will open at 9 a.m. on Monday September 14 with sessions until noon. Grades 1-4 will meet at the old Hotel Building on Main Street while older students attend at the current high school. The new building should be ready about six weeks later. Registration for upper six grades is set for September 10 and 11 at the high school from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Parents may accompany students. freshmen and sophomores are urged to attend to help select courses. Bus schedules will begin at 8 a.m. on opening day with details announced later. The curriculum may include drawing courses and possibly drama.

Homecoming planned at Mt. Carmel school reunion

Former pupils and teachers of Mt. Carmel join families for a Labor Day basket dinner at the Mt. Carmel school building on September 7. The 1 PM session includes an informal program, registration, and forming a permanent organization chaired by Albert Tschira of New Richmond.

Barn Fire Destroys Farm Structures in Delaware County

Lightning struck the Wm. Strick land farm between Williamsburg and Bethel Saturday night, destroying a large cattle barn wagon shed and corn crib. Fifteen tons of hay and 100 bushels of wheat burned. Farm implements were saved and the stock, out in the field, escaped. A heavy rain afterwards helped quell the flames.

Auto Crash In Owensville Injures None

John W. Lytle his wife and son John of Williamsburg were returning from Marathon when a maple tree fell across their auto during a wind storm at Owensville. The radiator lamps and fenders were crushed but all occupants escaped unharmed. The car was wrecked and towed away. It was a narrow escape.

Clermont Countys 88th Annual Fair Draws Big Crowd

The 88th Clermont County Fair closed last Friday with strong turnout despite drought harming livestock and produce. Thousands enjoyed a lively program, with 4-H clubs drawing about 700 youths and over 2,000 items entered. Major prize winners spanned 4-H displays, health and sewing cups, livestock championships, grain and fruit shows, and various crafts and quilts.

Goshen Homecoming Includes Ball Game And Dance

The Goshen homecoming will be held at the Goshen school auditorium on Labor Day September 7. Residents and former students and church members are invited to attend. A lunch will be served by the PTA, followed by a semi professional ball game and an evening dance sponsored by the PTA.

Two Cincinnati Women Drown in Ohio River Accident

Two young Cincinnati women, Ethel Surface and Lillian Coleman, 25, drowned when a small boat capsize near Pt Pleasant on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River. Their husbands and a friend were aboard. Hodgson swam to aid them while Surface and Coleman were pulled to shore after rescue efforts by camp personnel and responders.
