Homecoming at Batavia M E Church Draws Wide Attendance

The Batavia M E Church hosted a well attended morning service with memoriam read by Supt John Huntington and several solos by Cecil Turton Nicholas Kain and other performances. A large church lawn spread followed organized by church ladies and the afternoon program featured Judge Charles White presiding and remarks by Mayor J M Wiseman and visitors including Fret H Aultman A T Marsh and many attendees from multiple cities.

Electric Bell Foils Auto Theft at Edenton Farmstead

Thieves tried to steal wheels from H R Smith near Edenton and the Leoders farm. Smith’s electric bell warned him. he fired a shotgun and captured Delmer Rooks, a former employee now jailed. Jessie Taylor, 28, escaped. Rooks to have a hearing soon, Taylor to be recaptured.

Deadline Near For Taxpayers In County Plea To Pay

County Treasurer J M Firzpatrick urges taxpayers to file assessments before the September 10 4 pm deadline. No extension will be given and those delayed may face penalties. Mail ins must bear a postmark by September 10 or be returned delinquent.

Ohio Rural Youth Conference to be Held at Ohio State

Clermont County will send five delegates to the first Ohio Rural Youth Conference at Ohio State University September 7 to 10. Delegates represent 4-H Clubs public schools Scouts Farm Bureau and Grange. Notable speakers include Dr. C E Baker Dr Frank Slutz Reverend Roy Burkhart and J P Schmidt. Local residents visited relatives in Xenia and Yellow Springs over the weekend.

Burglars Rob Edenton Home. Checks and Cash Stolen

Deputy Sheriff Tom Brooks rushed to the Edenton residence of Alfred L and Juna Campbell after a burglary Sunday night. Two old age pension checks for 11 dollars each and 48 dollars from a hog sale were taken, with small trinkets missing. A woman's black veil was left at the scene. The couple were at Sunday school when entry occurred.

Clermont County to vote on 175000 road bond

Clermont County commissioners move to place a $175000 bond issue on the November ballot for road improvements. Funds would be divided among fourteen townships to surface about seven miles each and total about 98 miles countywide. The measure costs about 0.82 mill on the tax duplicate.

New Commercial Teacher Hired by Williamsburg Board

Miss Louise Secrest is employed as the new commercial teacher by the Williamsburg Board of Education. She comes to Williamsburg with strong recommendations from Wester ville and replaces Lorenzo Lewis of Bethel who left for Lowe and Campbell in Cincinnati last month.

Birth Announcement in Capital City Courthouse

Early Thursday at 4 15 am a seven and a half pound baby girl was born to Judge and Mrs Orville Halbisch in the county seat. The child will be named Edith Faye Rita Halbisch in probate court records. The judge celebrated with cigars for men and gum for women, while both parents showed pride and happiness.
