Charlie Barkley of Bethel was arrested Saturday on bootlegging charges. Officials found 64 pints of Kentucky whiskey in his possession. He pled guilty before Judge White and was sentenced to 30 days in county jail with a $200 fine, which was suspended. Barkley was returned to jail to serve the sentence.

Apple House planned at Anstaett Orchards near Batavia
A modern fruit grading and packing plant named the Apple House is under construction three miles west of Batavia on Route 74.
