The eighty ninth Clermont County Fair closed Friday after record attendance and meritorious exhibits. Dr. Allen B. Rapp praised the fair as the most successful in years. Robert Johnson Arrested on Bond for Batavia Robbery

Robert Johnson, a colored man from Cincinnati, was arrested Thursday night in Cincinnati on charges tied to the Glancy Dry Goods Store robbery in Batavia on July 27. Sheriff Land G. Auxier announced the capture before Mayor Wiseman and set a $2,000 bond pending the October grand jury session.

Clermont Bell Telephone Picnic At Beechwood Inn

Clermont county employees of the Cincinnati Suburban Bell Telephone Co hosted a chicken and steak dinner at Beechwood Lodge Inn. Fifty seven workers attended the annual picnic with games like horseshoe pitching under the supervision of Vice President Kilgore and General Manager Reed of Cincinnati.

The $10,000 Helen Robinson estate, died August 13, is to fund religious and charitable causes. Holy Trinity Church Bata via receives real estate and $500. residuary trust goes to Archbishop McNicholas for seminary upkeep and Society to Aid Missions. Beneficiaries include the Negro Mission at Holy Trinity, Karl Goebbels, and Marie Goebbels Niehus. Rev. Edward Stuhlmueller is executor.

Bethel Bootlegger Arrested Saturday

Charlie Barkley of Bethel was arrested Saturday on bootlegging charges. Officials found 64 pints of Kentucky whiskey in his possession. He pled guilty before Judge White and was sentenced to 30 days in county jail with a $200 fine, which was suspended. Barkley was returned to jail to serve the sentence.

Two Garden Clubs Sponsor Flower Show in Bethel

Bethel and Williamsburg Garden Clubs present a flower show at the Grant Memorial Building in Bethel on Saturday September 11 with a plate lunch of chicken salad pie a la mode. Earl Williams of the Seyler farm near Batavia killed a copperhead snake Monday. The female reptile measured about 84¢ in foot length and struck at him twice before he killed it.

Jury commissioners Bruce Daugh ters of Felicity and Georgia Moore head of Monterey were in Batavia Monday arranging drawings for the September 13 petit juries and the October term of the grand jury. The next grand jury term begins October 5 with fifteen members to be selected for grand jury service and as many petit jurors as needed.

Lewis Hoefler of Nicholsville Dies at 67

Lewis Hoefler 67 of near Nicholsville died at his home Sunday morning. Former Concord resident. Funeral held Tuesday at Kennedy Funeral Home with burial in Concord. Wife and son Charles of Cincinnati survive.

The Rehabilitation Office in the old courthouse is open for government loan service under new supervisor Roy M. Brubaker from near West Alexandria Ohio. Brubaker brings a long record of federal service from the Federal Land Bank of Louisville and Rural Rehabilitation Division in Hamilton and Dayton. Alice Duff, Home Supervisor for Hamilton Warren Butler and Clermont Counties, joins with Brubaker from the Akron district office to oversee the program.

Bond Issue Set for Goshen School Ballot in November

The Goshen School District wins State Tax Commission approval for a $50,000 bond issue to be placed on the November ballot. Congressman Polk announces a $40,000 PWA grant for Goshen School improvements, following previous failure by 22 votes in March. The board now expects a safe majority at the November 1 election.

Hyde Park Youth Upsets Machine in Minor Injury Incident

Jack Gruber, 24, of 2716 Grayson Hyde Park suffered minor scratches when a drying machine hooked to another? machine and tipped over near Amelia on the Ohio Pike. He was taken to Bethesda Hospital with only minor injuries. Gruber was linked to a recent Batavia Market Street fracas involving John Rapp Jr.

Apple House planned at Anstaett Orchards near Batavia

A modern fruit grading and packing plant named the Apple House is under construction three miles west of Batavia on Route 74. The facility will include a sales room and parking, with a large mechanical sizing and packing setup. Apple and plum trees on the Anstaett farm will benefit from spraying programs.
