Clark Buys Service Station In Batavia

Jack Clark a former Marine sergeant buys the Fleetwing Service Station on Route 74 near the bridge in Batavia and will run it as Jack's Service Center. He takes over from Clay Moore of Marathon who moves into the restaurant business. Clark is an experienced operator who worked at Wright Aeronautical in Cincinnati.

Batavia Plans Halloween Parade and Window Art Contest

Batavia hosts a Halloween parade starting at the schoolhouse at 7 p m Thursday moving to the Courthouse and Armory where games and prizes for best costumes will be awarded. Children may still reserve window spaces to draw soap pictures with Ed Parrott and L Larkin handling contest rules. Pringle Road Bridge Study Initiated by Commissioners

In a Monday meeting Clermount County Commissioners ordered the County Engineer to prepare an estimate for erecting a bridge on Pringle Road near Woodland Park. They also advertised bids for road projects including 950 tons of crushed stone on Starling Road in Tate Township, 1200 tons on Todds Run Twin Bridge Road in Williamsburg Township, and 700 tons on Bethel Maple Road in Tate Township.

Clermont Soil Conservation District to elect three supervisors

The Clermont Soil Conservation District Supervisors meet in Batavia to select three candidates to fill expiring terms of Elmer Norris, Albert M. Kistner, and Robert E. Caldwell. Election is scheduled for November 29 with ballot access via district offices and petitions due from county landholders. Amelia to Add New Red Route November First

Post office in Amelia will add an extra mail route with six extensions starting November 1. Postmaster Ada M. Waggall says the expansion follows a survey by Inspector Van Lieu of Cincinnati and aims to serve the growing Amelia area. Carriers leave at 10:00 a.m. Route 1 will use Fred G. Hammann as temporary carrier and Route 2 will be Donald Lytle.

Slaughter House Opens In Rural Route 50 Area

The Frank Schwemberger slaughter house between Perintown and Milford opens to the public with modern equipment. Schwemberger envisions rural homes later using freezing units and bringing hogs or beef for slaughter, inspection, freezing, and storage, while lockers and old curing remain in use. He began in stockyards 32 years ago and now runs a busy operation booked weeks ahead.
