70 Year Old Man Killed in Farm Accident

Jacob Gross aged 70 of Mulberry died when a pulley failed on F E Judd farm at Stonelick. He was knocked down as a wagon ran toward a steep embankment and struck his head on a harrow. Gross had been hauling corn all day. the funeral is set for Thursday at Monroe Funeral Home Milford.

Walker Named President of Clermont County Bar Association

James A. Walker was named president of the Clermont County Bar Association at a regular meeting at Terrace Park Country Club last Wednesday evening. Other officers are Lucien Dawson as vice president and Judge Orville H. Halbisch as secretary and treasurer. A memorial to Edwin C. Ely prepared by Eli H. Speidel, Judge Harry Britton and David H. Stevenson was presented and accepted. a copy to be filed with the Clerk of Courts.

Hunter Shoots Self on Farm Near Pt Isabel

Sunday, Austin Melton, 38, of Cincinnati, accidentally shot himself while hunting on the Ratliffs farm near Pt. Isabel. He was found after 90 minutes with wounds to the left chest and arm, treated by Dr. C. F. Barber, and transported to Christ Hospital in Cincinnati in serious condition. His wife Ollie was at home.

Candidate for Coroner Dies Before Election

Funeral services were held for Dr. O. B. Martin of Williamsburg at J. Issac Malham Funeral Home. Martin, a Democratic candidate for County Coroner in the upcoming election, received 4,065 votes before his death was publicly known, with many voters choosing straight-party ballot.

Paratrooper Harry Ely Dies by Self Inflicted Gunshot

Funeral services were held for Harry Eugene Ely 22 veteran of Bantam at Old Bethel Church after he shot himself Thursday morning. He was found beside his mother's grave by friend Russell Valentine after leaving the cemetery, died later at Christ Hospital Cincinnati. Investigators noted powder burns and found a note. no motive was determined. Ely had enlisted at 18 and did odd jobs since discharge.

Armistice Day Parades Planned in Two Ohio Towns

Armistice Day parades are scheduled in Amelia and Williamsburg both sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Amelia hosts a 2 p.m. parade Sunday November 10 with services at 2:30 p.m. at the Amelia school building. Williamsburg assembles veterans at the bridge at 7 p.m. for a procession to the school for an 8 p.m. program.

Frank Hoggatt, county superintendent, is at Bethesda Hospital Cincinnati recovering from surgery. He is reported to be doing well. Sally Greno Keen enrolls at Ohio Wesleyan University as Ohio Wesleyan records a fall enrollment of 2,100 students.

Batavia Bridge Through the Years 1925 to 1934

A 1925 Batavia bridge photo recalls a 1933 authorized replacement. Construction spanned winter with a temporary East Fork alignment. The new bridge was dedicated August 18, 1934, after a contest submission by Mrs. Milton Hatick for a local October Snapshot Prize.

Annual Halloween Party at Harrison Farm

A Halloween party held on October 30 at H. D. Harrison’s Willowville farm drew about 75 children in festive dress. A bonfire, roasted wieners, candy, and peanuts followed, and an Annual Halloween Party Club was formed with H. D. Harrison as President and Willard Wisby as Vice-President among others.

Cross Orchard Rated in Spray Test

The Cross orchard at Amelia earned honorable mention among Ohio’s top commercial apple orchards for low insect and disease damage in a state survey of 55 orchards. Ohio State University extension entomologist Prof. T H Parks announced the findings. The Honor Group includes ten orchards at 98.5 percent clean or higher, with eight more at least 97 percent.

Lodge Holds School at Felicity District Meeting

Willard Rebecca Lodge No. 492 of Felicity hosted the annual district meeting of the School of Instruction. State leaders Mrs. Cora Dunlap and Mrs. Anna I. Henderson attended as state noble grand and state secretary. Dinner was served in the school lunchroom.

McCOWEN HAYDEN HILL CLAIM EASY ELECTION VICTORIES

Clermont County followed the national trend, voting solidly Republican. Governor candidates Herbert and Lausche led, with Herbert the GOP choice and Lausche the Democrat. McCowen Hayden and Hill won clear victories in their races, while other contests showed wide margins for Republicans.

Bond Issue Outlook Favorable in Clermont County

In Clermont County, preliminary returns favored school bond issues in Felicity Franklin and Goshen districts. Felicity Franklin reported 545 yes to 224 no, Goshen 311 yes to 86 no. Milford unofficial results showed a defeat for the operating levy 496 to 306, while a 1.5 million bond retirement proposal passed 494 to 305.

Neville Sentenced in Clermont County Court Case

Earl Neville received 30 days in jail and a $200 fine after a jury trial in Clermont County Common Pleas Court on petty larceny. Edgar Kennel of Cincinnati was awarded $625 in a civil suit Kennel vs Tyler over real estate commissions involving Rosco Tyler’s Olive Branch property. Robert Boots will face trial before Judge Harry Britton Faday in an assault and battery case.

Boy Injured by Cartridge In Classroom Accident

Samuel Foster ten suffered a serious left hand injury when a cartridge exploded in a classroom at Amelia school Monday around 3 p m. The incident required amputation of the thumb and forefinger and also wounded his left eye. Foster was taken to Children's Hospital Cincinnati for treatment. The cartridge source involved Herbert Stockman eleven who received a scalp wound and sat beside the victim. Stockman’s brother had brought the cartridges home from service.

Play of 1906 Described in Old Courier Clipping

A forty year old Courier clipping found in Mrs. Clarence Slade’s attic notes a December 7 1906 play The Union Depot for a Day. Cast includes John Glancy as Depot Master Earl Fishback as ticket agent Eldon Slade as Newsboy and Teal Parrott Glancy and Dimmitt as strolling Italians, performed for Batavia Public Library via the Woman’s Club.

Mrs Leontine Fagley of Bethel sues in Clermont County Common Pleas Court seeking 45000 damages over her husband's death at a cattle crossing on his farm near Bethel. Actions name Fred Reed truck operator and Roy Stanforth driver, with 35000 against Reed and 10000 against Stanforth.
