Local Barristers Set Court Record

In Common Pleas court last week the case Nannie Ash versus Roy Billingsley admr of Samuel T Billingsley estate was heard. The jury began at 9 30 and after about 80 minutes returned a verdict for the plaintiff. Judge White charged the jury before they retired. The award was 260 dollars for services rendered before the demise. Attorney for the plaintiff was James W Walker and for the defense Forrest E Ely.

Three Batavia area residents are in Cincinnati hospitals after surgical operations. Ruth Ferguson Rural Route Two Batavia is at Good Samaritan Hospital, as is Macke Day. Orie Malott Water Street Batavia Rural Route Five is recovering at Deaconess Hospital.

Edward Charles Reiger of Point Pleasant Clermont County Ohio had 258, the first number drawn in Washington for the 1917 World War draft. The state allows absent voting for voters over fifty miles from their precincts or those unable to travel on election day. Absentee ballots may be cast from Oct 7, 1940, to noon on Nov 1, 1940. Applications must be written on a form from the County Board of Elections, available in person or by mail. If sickness or disability is the reason, it should be stated on the application request.
