Edgar Stockton Wins Clermont Husking Contest Again

Edgar Stockton of Williamsburg set a Clermont County record by husking 1167% lbs or 17.11 bushels in 80 minutes at Edon Myers farm near Williamsburg. John Manley, W W Snyder, and Robert Sibert placed 2nd through 4th with strong readings. Mrs Ruby Jones won the ladies’ 30 minute event, edging Florence Campbell. Russell Christie won the vocational can contest with 223% lbs.

Halloween Frolic At Mt Carmel Glen Este School

The Mt Carmel Glen Este Parent Teacher Association hosts a Halloween party October 30 at the school auditorium from 7 pm. Grand March at 7 with prize for best costume, four prizes at 7 30, free souvenirs, games for all ages, Buron Pullen directs games, dancing 8 to midnight with Jean's Ohio Aces. Major R. A. Haynes Dies In Hillsboro

Major R. A. Haynes 58 former National Prohibition Commissioner died at his Hillsboro home after a visit to Lancaster Kentucky. A friend of President Harding and former editor of the Hillsboro Dispatch he also served under Coolidge. He is survived by his widow Katherine Mason Haynes and his mother Mrs Charles E Haynes.

Rotary Club Halloween Party in Batavia Armory

The Rotary club of Batavia hosts its annual Halloween party for residents of Batavia and nearby areas at the Batavia Armory on Wednesday evening October 20. Dr. J A Carter extends quarantine in Goshen Wayne Miami Jackson Williams burg Tate Batavia Union and Stonelick townships Clermont County due to rabies cases. Quarantine also active in Pierce Ohio Monroe Washington and Franklin townships as rabies persists. Dogs bitten remain under observation and no human cases have occurred. Country Place Sold to Cincinnati Owner Near Hamlet

Bina R. Bagley of Cincinnati bought the four acre country place of Ada Curliss at the corner of State Routes 125 and 132 on the edge of Hamlet Ohio. The property includes an eight room frame house barn and outbuildings and has been run as a chicken dinner inn. The sale was handled by L. C. Hopkins Reality Company.

Willkie to Speak at Jackson Ohio Big Meeting

A large Willkie rally is planned in Jackson Ohio on October 29 from 11 am to 2 pm with expectations of 75 000 to 100 000 attendees. Willkie will address the gathering at noon and a preparatory meeting occurred October 21 to organize support across four congressional districts and 20 counties.

Young Republicans Organize County Club for Election Work

The Young Republicans of Clermont County form a county wide club with E H Sidwell cooperation. They plan precinct labor for Willkie Bricker Burton tickets. A November dance at Ham let Day's Hall 9 pm to 1 am, 50 cents per couple, with Kirtley Orchestra. A October 28 meeting at Batavia headquarters invites 21 to 35 year olds to participate. The draft lottery details are explained with precinct-by-precinct registration totals and boards 1 and 2 totaling 3792 registrants.

Felicity Mother Dies By Her Own Hand in Clermont County

Coroner Sam White investigated a case in which Mrs. Ethel Albrecht, age unknown, shot herself in a room with a seven year old daughter present. Family cites ill health as the cause. Survived by husband George and three children George five Dorothy eight and Ruth seven. Funeral services held Monday at Kennedy funeral home Bethel with burial at Bethel cemetery.

Clermont County Tea Party Hosts Illustrated Lecture

The Clermont County Citizens Club invites all to a tea in the Township Hall at Locust Corner on Thursday October 31 at 3 o clock. Final Auto Tag Revenue Distributed

The 1940 automobile tag revenue totaling 486162.40 was distributed by Ohio registrar Dylon W. Wallace. Of this, 2231.65 funded the county equalization fund, 169385.20 went to 88 counties, and the remainder to state taxing districts by registration. Clermont County received 1866.20 as its total share.

Ohio May Lose a Congressman by Census

Ohio risks shedding a House seat after the 1940 census unless Congress revises apportionment plans. With 131,409,881 people nationally, Ohio’s population rose only from 6,646,697 in 1930 to 6,889,623, the smallest 10 year gain in 130 years, leaving it at 24 seats if current rules hold.
