Democrats Hold Eight County Posts In Clermont Balloting
Governor John W. Bricker led the ticket in Clermont County with an unofficial 10 068 votes. Democrats captured eight county offices while Republicans Sam Ausman J J Hayden and Carl Rush held commissioners representative and county engineer roles respectively. Thomas Brooks topped the ticket with 9980 votes and John Friend Jr. followed with 9907. The county turnout contradicted pre election gossip of a GOP sweep.

Amelia High School will start the 1940 41 season next Friday November 8 in the Amelia Gym with Williamsburgh first and second boys teams as opponents. A boys second team will play the preliminary due to girls basketball being banned by the State Athletic Association. Limestone dealers to offer bids on ground limestone
Clermont County AAA and the AAA program will supply over 500000 tons of ground limestone to Ohio farmers. Bids run November 9 to 18 from dealers and quarry owners in bulk materials at county or township prices. Farmers may receive up to 70 percent of their 1941 conservation payment with costs deducted from next year’s payment.

Man Struck by Car in Amelia Collision Injures Billy Clark
Early Tuesday a car driven by Mr Campbell of Georgetown struck Billy Clark 40 of 10 mile while crossing Route 125 near Kroger in Amelia. Clark suffered broken legs and was hurled about 40 feet and taken to a Cincinnati hospital. condition unknown at press time.

Riverman Dies in New Richmond After Long River Career
Sayil Layfield of New Richmond died after a life in river work spanning ash hauling chief engineer and steamer roles from 1892 onward. He married Libbie Bettle on October 25, 1900, and had two sons David and Milton who joined river service. He served as Chief Material Inspector of the United States in 1940 and held posts with the Pro peller club Pittsburgh Masonic Lodge New Richmond Baptist Church.
