Miss Mildred Louise Carter of Batavia and Orrin Delain Prindle of Williamsburg wed Saturday at the United Brethren parsonage with Rev I E Jenkins officiating. Attendants were Miss Fern Ashmore and Levi Curliss. A reception followed at the Carter home. The couple, on a short trip to Williamsburg Kentucky, plan work in Batavia and Williamsburg respectively.

Books Now Honor Memory of Batavians

Two memorial volumes were placed in the High School library by Mr and Mrs Harry Kahle commemorating Aden Nash and Mrs P F Jamieson. Flowering Earth by Donald Peattie is dedicated to Mr Nash and a complete edition of Shakespeare by Oxford University Press honors Mrs Jamieson. Both are available for public reading.

Eight Candidates Seek Amelia Postmaster Job

A civil service exam will be held at the Batavia post office on Saturday October 30 to fill the Amelia postmaster vacancy after the July death of Fred B Weaver. Eight candidates compete for the job which pays $2000 a year and is held for life. Acting postmaster Ada Waggal has led since Mr Weaver’s death and the top three scorers will be considered for the appointment.

Batavia post office ships thousands of holiday parcels to armed forces overseas and handles diverse services. Over 2,500 parcels sent, Navy mail extended to Dec 10, 3,000 Clermont servicemen, 10,000 patrons, county feeder to 18 offices, and vast Christmas stamps and greeting card activity. Postmaster notes 11,000,000 in armed forces and street delivery hoped postwar.

Don Riehl Named Clermont County Agricultural Agent

Don Riehl, longtime Ross County assistant agent based in Chillicothe since 1939, was hired by Clermont County farmers to serve as Agricultural Agent starting November 1, 1943. Age 31, married with one child, he replaces Roy Battles and brings a strong farm background including Ohio State University training and extensive Ross County work with 4-H and farm groups. The hiring committee includes Walter Bauer, W. R. Owen, J. W. Evans, E. L. Carter, Heber Malott, Robert R. Caldwell, E. C. Saxton, Wm. Bell, and R. F. Turner.

Utility asks Clermont patrons aid to save power during war
