Last Rites Held For Area Trio Victims Of Collision

Funeral services were held Tuesday for three teens killed in a two car crash at SR 222 and SR 125 near Bantam. William Caskey 18 and Danny Dobbs 18 were buried side by side in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Connie Jo Connor 15 was buried in Confidence Cemetery after ceremonies at Cahall Funeral Home Georgetown. Timothy Pope 19 of Hamersville survived with injuries. Caskey and Dobbs Amelia High School graduates. Caskey survived by parents and siblings. Dobbs by mother and several siblings. Connor by parents and brothers.

Grand Jury Indicts Pair in Parking Lot Murder

After a three day session the Clermont County grand jury returned 12 indictments including one secret charge and cleared three. Two Milford residents Larry Bray and Ambrose Hall face first degree murder charges in the Aug 29 shooting of Jack B. Jones 22 of Marathon. A witness said Hall held Jones while Bray pistol whipped him and Jones was shot in the parking lot after leaving Jerry's Tavern. Other indictments list Gregory G Sharpe Merle T Gumm Ralph H Hicks Cash Reece James O Greene William K Bohl William Begley John C Loethen and more on various charges. Dismissals followed for Wayne McMillion Richard Hall and Howard G Black. The sheriff and matron were praised for jail and juvenile detention center cleanliness.

Suspects Admit Attempted Arson in Grandstand Case

Larry Curry 17 and Gary McKenny 16 of Owensville face sentencing after pleading to lesser charges of attempted arson. They and allies allegedly poured gasoline and set a fire at a grandstand at 1 30 a m. Prosecutor notes possible time discrepancy and mentions abetting arson against Nagelhout 19 and Porter 19.

Services Held for Dr Francis E Demarais Former Clermont Health Chief

Services were held Monday at Moore Funeral Home Newtown for Dr Francis E Demarais 44 former Clermont health commissioner who died Thursday in Ada He was resident physician for Ohio Northern University and lived at 499 Wesley Dr Mr Carmel His wife Doris planned to join him in Ada in February He served as Clermont health post head from March 26 1968 succeeding Dr Albert W Van Sickle He was a World War II veteran He is survived by wife two daughters Renee and Myrna a sister Mrs Lorna Perkins a brother Royal and his parents Mr and Mrs Arthur Demarais of Minneapolis.

Flannery Elected President of Clermont County Chamber

Horace Flannery wins election as president of the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce. The 62 acre University of Cincinnati county branch site will be purchased by the chamber and title conveyed to UC at a to be scheduled ceremony. Recognition will be given to industries and organizations aiding the land purchase. Other officers include Lee Sutliff chair, Charles J. Brandt first vice president, Carl Vogt second vice president, Wayne Smith treasurer.

Batavia Site Chosen for UC County Branch

Final approval by the Ohio Board of Regents designates the Ethel Johnson Farm, a 62.7 acre tract on Bauman Lane near the Airport, as the Clermont County Branch site of the University of Cincinnati. UC President Walter C. Langsam recommended the Batavia site to Chancellor John D. Millett, who forwarded the preference to the Regents. Clermont Industrial Parks owns the farm which the Chamber of Commerce will purchase at cost and donate to UC.

KDI Seeks Funds for New Plant and County Salt Bid

County advances plan to issue revenue bonds for a KDI Corp plant on McMann Road Union Township with a lease-back arrangement. A road salt bid resulted in a four-way tie, resolved by drawing with Cargill Co. winning and Morton Diamond Crystal and International Salt losing.

Officials Urge OK For .3-Mill TB Levy

Clermont County commissioners urge approval of a five year .3 mill levy on the November ballot to fund TB patient care at contracted hospitals and TB clinics. They note rising costs and say the levy is a small tax for a vital program that saves lives and protects against contagion from tuberculosis.

Milford Dentist Dr Donald Merker elected to international college

Dr Donald B Merker of Zanesville former Milford resident has joined the International College of Dentists by invitation. The ceremony occurred Oct 12 at the Americana Hotel New York City with Ohio’s 75 members noted. Merker and Janet have four children and are Milford High School and Miami University graduates. The Milford fire whistle will start beggar's night at 6 30 p m Oct 30 and end trick or treat at 8 p m this year by order of Mayor Maurice Bernges.
