River Dedication Cruise Opens From Pittsburg to Cincinnati

The Ohio River Dedication Cruise begins from Pittsburg with the steamer Cincinnati and two escort steamers. Officials led by Mayor Charles Kline travel toward Wheeling Huntington and Cincinnati to attend President Hoover’s river monument dedication in Eden Park. Crowds in Pittsburg greeted the flotilla as twenty boats steamed along, while fog delayed some legs of the trip.

40 Foot Lima Bean Vine Tops Local Garden Drama

The town of Batavia boasts an exceptionally long Lima bean vine stretching 40 feet along a brace wire from a telephone pole near the County Buildings. Planted in Miss Carrie Williams's garden, the vine grew freely after an accidental climb from the garden, drawing attention from many local gardeners.

Young Lady Dies After Operation at Christ Hospital

Mrs. Simpson Griffith formerly of Batavia now living in Mariemont died at Christ Hospital Tuesday after an operation last Friday. Born and raised there she had many friends. Funeral was from Louis Buerkle's home yesterday afternoon with burial in Union Cemetery. She is survived by a husband a son a grandson her mother brothers and sisters.

Bus Suit Settlements In Buckeye Stage Crash

Bridge Collapse on A. and P. Highway at Clermontville

A 60 foot steel bridge on the A. and P. highway at Clermontville collapsed last Saturday and fell into the creek after a truck crossed it. Fred Croswell assistant State highway superintendent organized a temporary detour and state crews under his direction will replace the bridge soon.

Bailey district auto crash survivor takes no blame

Jacob Bauman of New Richmond says he bears no fault in the Kellogg avenue wreck that killed Miss Thelma Heckele near Cincinnati last Thursday. He was arrested on a manslaughter charge and released on bond. A tenant house on W. C. Bishops Elk Lick farm burned last Thursday with unknown origin, partly insured, leaving the occupant with total loss of goods. A country fire proves hard to fight.

Batavia Trustees Select Bauer Road for Gas Tax Project

The Batavia Township Trustees choose a road from Route 74 in Batavia to the Deerfield road near Owensville, known as Bauer road, to improve with gas tax funds. Workers harvest rock to lay as crushed aggregate, creating a connecting link between two highways. A second linking route from Olive Branch to the Grant Highway near Hartwell’s Corner is also noted.

Stands Alone Pt Pleasant Lacks Public Building

Pt Pleasant, birthplace of General Grant, lacks a schoolhouse church or hall. The hilltop schoolhouse burned months ago and was not rebuilt, and the village’s church, the sole gathering place, was destroyed recently. The town, a scenic Ohio River spot, attracts visitors and may see efforts to restore a public building.

Irene Gaylord Tyree Marries Roy G. Tyree

Mrs. Fannie Julick of Bellevue announces the marriage of her daughter Irene Gaylord to Roy G. Tyree of Winona Minnesota on October 7 1929. The couple will reside at 102 East 8th Street Winona after October 20. A district conference at Ripley is set for November 6 and 10 with Dr. George delivering an Armistice Day sermon at the Union meeting. The general election occurs Monday November 6 with various local officers to be chosen.
