Benjamin Caldwell, a restaurant keeper, attempted to kill his wife Thursday morning. Neighbors intervened as Caldwell beat and tossed her from a second floor kitchen onto stones. she was unconscious and seriously hurt. Caldwell fled, was later captured and jailed.

A Batavia Knights and Taria visit, hosted by a local organization in Matavia on Thursday night, featured a social gathering after the third degree and an elegant supper. About forty Knights attended, the event boosting club membership and communal spirit with guests from Amelia, Williama borg, Clucionath and nearby towns.
