He enlisted at 16 in Dayton Ohio and served in the South Pacific before joining the paper four years ago, later becoming newswriter and photographer and advancing to managing editor this summer. His wife Mrs Fortney also works part time at the Courier.

Mrs Dollie Baum Dies at 90 in Batavia
Mrs Dollie Pegg Baum aged 90 died Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital after a fall at her home on August 21 caused a broken leg. She was the widow of George Baum, lifelong Batavia resident, who lived 50 years in the same house. Services were held Monday at Williams Moore Funeral Home conducted by Rev. William T. Paterson of Batavia Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Batavia Cemetery.
