State Auditor James A Rhodes seeks why 70000 in state checks remain unde posited by Ohio subdivisions many from the 1930s. Clermont United Appeal reports 9650 raised in five townships as volunteers begin door to door work in a five county area.

Six Clermont County Liquor Permits Issued

The Ohio Department of Liquor Control announced six new permits in Clermont County. Names include Charles E. Seibert Perin town Frank Nieder Jr Gilbert Tarvin and Leonard Wadell with various dates of application. D-3 permits authorize liquor by the glass till 1 a.m. Howard Hauersperger and Harry L. Brown received D-5 permits for sale of liquor by the glass till 2 30 a.m.

Amelian Succeeds Slade As School Attendance Man

Leonard Billingsley of Ame lia was named county attendance officer succeeding the late Clarence Slade. The Clermont County Board of Education approved seven cents per mile travel expense for all employees and reported purchase of school equipment including trucks, cars, a jeep, desks, chairs, and filing cabinets with disposal options after one year.

Three Youths Held In Burglary Try

Three youths are in Clermont County jail for investigation in an attempted breaking and entering at the Taylor Boyd Sophia Station. Ray Buchanan 18 of Cincinnati, Edward Fairbanks 18 and Jack Combs 20, both locals, were taken into custody. Sheriff Clyde Dericks noted prior similar charges on August 2 and probation had been set.

Rhodes Reports Clermont County Tax Duplicate Figure

State Auditor James A. Rhodes released the Clermont County tax duplicate showing the total appraised value of all real estate utilities and personal property at 102 983 866 The state's grand duplicate sums to 21 804 610 056 far above last year by nearly 12 billion due to rising wealth and higher appraisals The 1836 baseline was 99 253 350 and the total has grown about 220 times in 120 years with a doubling in the last decade

Milford residents are urged to pass a seven mill school levy with renewal of five mills and two new mills. The plan would raise about 30 000 with state matching funds to hire teachers and ease overcrowded classrooms. enrollment is projected to exceed 1200 next year. Cub Pack awards were announced at a September meeting with several scouts earning Silver Arrow and Webelos badges.

Plane crash claims two men near Newtown

A Piper Cub crashed near Everett Havens farm east of Newtown about 5 30 p m Tuesday killing Stanley W Chacksfield 30 and William R Richey 40 both of Newtown The pilot Chacksfield owned the craft and was flying from Watson Airport Blue Ash Richey died at General Hospital witnesses said the plane flew upside down before crashing Both men left widows and three children

Trustees Urge Passage Of Levy For Fire Protection

Batavia Township trustees unanimously support a proposed one half mill fire levy to fund fire protection and the new engine. Trustees William Brothers Clarence Lytle Charles Wright and Clerk Stanley Anstaett urged residents to vote for the levy, noting fire insurance rates may drop with improved protection.

Woman Justice One of 3 Dies in Clermont County

Funeral services for Mrs Erma Knause were held at TP White and Sons Mt Washington with burial in Mt Moriah Cemetery. A justice of the peace of Pierce township for three years she was one of three women in Clermont County holding that office. She died Saturday night and is survived by three daughters a son her mother two sisters and was civic club treasurer and active in the Clermont County Republican Club committee work.

Youth Catches Foot In 1'1 Machine At Farm

Owensville report says Ray Davis an 18 year old Jackson Pike resident caught his hand in a corn picker last Thursday. He shut off the machine with his foot and received lacerations requiring stitches. X rays showed no broken bones. Harold Brothers Lee Carrier and Gene Winemiller aided in freeing him. He was taken to Christ Hospital for treatment.

Driver Dies of Heart Attack After Car Crash

Ernest Fred Erbacker, 78, of Rt. 1 Cozadale, died Monday after a heart attack struck him while driving. The car crossed a ditch into a fence before stalling. Clermont County coroner Dr. F. S. Skeen said he died soon after motorists pulled him from the car. He is survived by his widow, a son, a daughter, and a sister.

Robbery Suspect Pleads Innocent in Local Arraignment

William Wallace, 26, of Elmwood Place, pleaded not guilty to robbery when arraigned before Mayor J. F. Paschal after being returned from Franklinton, La. by Sheriff Clyde Dericks. Unable to post a $5,000 bond, he is jailed in Clermont County awaiting grand jury action. He allegedly beat Luther Allison of Norwood, then took his car and $127 after meeting at a Vine Street cafe and picking up two women.

Principals Meet For Discussion On County Education

County elementary principals discussed proposed standards and county services for schools. Arbor Day programs were planned with trees to be provided by local garden clubs. Junior high ball teams from areas in the State Athletic Association were debated for schedule inclusion but not league trophies.
