Reservations are being taken for a Republican rally at the Amelia school building on October 25. Dinner is at 6 30 p m with major program at 8 00 p m featuring Edward McCowen George Bender and Katherine Kennedy Brown at the school auditorium in Amelia Ohio.
Lewis Sowers and Miss Sybl Montgomery of Batavia purchase Patchells Dry Cleaners from Mr. and Mrs. Ed Patchell. The firm will operate as Service Dry Cleaners with William Stanley and William Bertram continuing on staff. Sowers brings 20 years in the business and other team members hold several years of experience.
A Batavia Halloween parade hosted by the Rotary Club starts at 8 p.m. with participants assembling at the school and marching through town. Following the parade, games at the Armory offer prizes for best costumes and soap-window drawings with top young artists also receiving prizes. For details, see Mr. B. L. Larkin.

A 7 30 p m meeting on October 18 at the Amelia schoolhouse will begin organizing a Clermont County Town Team Basketball League. Local teams from Amelia Batavia Mt Carmel Goshen Milford Owensville New Samsburg and Moscow may join with Stanley Anstaett of Batavia leading efforts. Veterans are expected to play and officials will be elected.
Snapshot fans must submit prints to the Courier by October 30, the final entry date for the current Snapshot Contest. First prize is $5. Open to amateurs only. prints may be any size. Include name address and other pertinent data with the entry.
William R. Barrackman died at 7 15 Sunday evening at the Winter home in Batavia. He came to Batavia recently from St. Cloud Florida. He is survived by his daughter Mrs H C Turner of Martinsville Ohio and a son John Barrackman of Batavia. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Wednesday in Martinsville.
Divorce cases in Clermont County climbed about 75 percent for the year ending July 1946, reported by Deputy County Clerk Ralph Parker. The chief causes cited include extreme cruelty and gross neglect of duty amid unsettled times.
County Superintendent Hoggatt and about 950 law school administrators joined a one day session at Central High School auditorium in Columbus on October 15. The gathering aimed to urge rural school leaders to develop plans to improve teacher quality and recruit less qualified prospective teachers.

Ely White and Davidson represent Mr Wulfeck. Batavia Grange plans third and fourth degree class Thursday October 17 amid a visit to Owensville Grange Wednesday evening.
Mayor A C Munden warns Halloween fun seekers to bring in lawn furniture to prevent theft by pranksters and says added police will patrol streets until after Halloween. Parents will be held responsible for property destruction. Clermont County Council of the American Legion meets October 21 at 8 30 p m with Joseph Ware of the Social Security Board speaking to Bethel veterans and others about flight training for veterans.
The Clermont Courier reports a midnight Tuesday close for its subscription contest with hundreds of new subs in at the office. Winners not announced yet to include all groups, with postmark deadline of October 15 for entries.

Batavia boards stop inductions and pre-induction physicals effective October 15 1946 on orders from Col C W Goble State Director for Selective Service. Registrants in 1 A will be reprocessed if the halt lasts beyond 90 days. All 18 year olds must register and carry certificates.
The Mt Carmel Glen Este P T A will meet Friday night October 18 at 8 p m in the school auditorium. The eighth grade will present a short health play and a health themed motion picture will be shown. Refreshments will be served in the cafeteria during the social hour.
The State Civil Service Commission will exam applicants for the Superintendent of the Clermont County Home in Batavia Ohio on Thursday October 31 1946 at 9 oclock A M Local Time. The bulletin with qualifications and applications is available from the County Auditor or the State Civil Service Commission in Columbus. Apply by Friday October 25 1946 to compete.
Special service planned at Batavia Presbyterian Church School on Sunday October 20 at 9 30. All current and former members are urged to attend.
At the Armory in Batavia a Legion post and Auxiliary officers will be installed on Saturday evening Oct 19 at 8 30. Auxiliary officers to be installed include Mrs Ethel Whitehead president Mrs Ada Hoffman vice president Mrs Minnie Winnes second vice president Mrs Lillie Hill secretary Mrs Betty Paul corresponding secretary Mrs Althea Moyer treasurer and Mrs Pauline McCloy Mrs Sylvia Ritchey and Mrs Helen Morgan executive committee Dale Nichols County Commander of the American Legion will also install Legion officers. Refreshments will be served and the public is invited.
An evening dance is planned from 8:30 to 2:30 with lunch served. Music will be supplied by Don's Trio for the event.
County leaders compile eligible voter list for 1946 Burley tobacco referendum. Growers owning, renting, or sharecropping Burley tobacco may vote on quotas for 1947, with two thirds needed for approval. Each person votes once, regardless of multiple Burley holdings.
