Felicity remains at the top as New Richmond rises to second in the Clermont Courier Subscription Contest. Subscriptions must be received by October 15 or postmarked that day to count, with renewals and new subs credited if paid through the relevant class.
The County PTA executive board meets at 1 30 p m October 9 in the office of Frank Hoggatt to finalize plans for the Fall School of Instruction for county units on October 16 at Williamsburg school. Registration runs 9 30 to 10 a m with speakers including Mrs A R Curnutt and Mrs Walter McKay. A 1 oclock lunch is served, followed by talks by Mrs Roy E Dickerson and Mrs Charles Pragar on topics from goals and standards to program planning.
Homer Morgan of Marathon was fined $50 in Mayor Munden's court last week for reckless driving. After jail time he paid the fine and was released. He was reportedly picked up again Sunday in Williamsburg for reckless driving and bound over to Mrs. Clare Boebinger of Cincinnati for the weekend with Mrs. W. Ritchie of North Street.
From The Courier files a century ago, William Hoover owned a hearse that could be used free of charge to ferry coffins to their destination, as long as the trip did not exceed one day.
Fifty years ago a healthy boy arrived at the home of Mr and Mrs Thomas Strief on a Wednesday morning. The boy is identified as a Republican.
A Republican rally is set for 8 p m Saturday October 12 at Anderson Township School Forestville Ohio Pike. Speakers include Thomas J Herbert John W Bricker and George E Kearns. Charles H Elston will preside with music and refreshments promised by local party clubs.
Mrs. Blanche Hutson of Amelia opens The Cottage Shop a women’s and children’s apparel and gift shop in her home at Hopkins and Main streets. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and until 6 p.m. Saturdays.
Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Strosnider observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a five o'clock supper attended by six children and four grandchildren. The couple, who wed in New Lexington, Ohio on October 7, 1896, were joined by relatives including Z. G. Waters of Lexington and several Strosnider relatives from Williamsville and Cincinnati. Mr. Strosnider was confined to bed with a heart ailment.
The Williamsburg High School junior class stages Swing Fever a three act comedy about a Dean of Men and his jitterbugging son Alexander at the school auditorium on Friday October 18 with a matinee for pupils and an evening show for the public. Cast includes Hubert Hutchinson Carolyn Thorton Virginia Chase Jimmy Sells Florence Johnson Betty Lou Strickland Clarence Gavey La Veron Rose Bill Fugett Sue Morse Eileen Ausman Jimmy Truske Bill Amiott Virginia Jessee and others directed by T O White with stage effects.
Bethel will host parachute engineer C. L. Noelcke from Cincinnati and jumpers Kenneth Rice and Robert Klenk at Bethel Airport on Sunday October 13. They will perform hourly jumps starting around 1 to 2 PM using Noelcke s large triangle parachute that lowered an airplane 68 times with the pilot in the ship. The two jumpers, veterans of war theatres, aim to raise funds to buy an airplane for parachute operations. Senior Scouts of Batavia announce a paper drive in Batavia on October 12. Residents should bundle papers and place them on the front porch early that day. Scoutmaster is Harold Brown.
In the October Clermont County Grand Jury session 14 indictments were returned and 18 cases ignored after a three day term. Defendants include Samuel Allison Ralph Monjar James Land James Thompson for nonsupport and break ins Arthur Lee Jr Davis Byrd and Earl Neville among others. Arrangements set for arraignments and trials in late October and November with specific bonds listed.
A former Miami River dance hall has been bought by So Lo Works of Loveland and opened as a Community House. It will host dances bazaars band concerts theatre events township meetings and church affairs with Joe J. Marx requesting local moral support for the program.
Joy May Warner Clermont County Home Demonstration Agent attended a Sewing Machine School at Ohio State University led by Professor R D Barden. Thirty county agents learned machine cleaning and repair and plans to hold county clinics for women learners. Clermont County High School principals met in county office Wednesday.
A Hallowe'en Parade will be sponsored by the Rotary Club on Hallowe'en Eve October 31. After the parade holiday games have been scheduled at the Armory. Details will be announced later.
A new garbage and ashes pickup service will begin Monday October 1 in Kline Heights Batavia. Residents must wrap trash in paper or expendable containers and place ashes in single handed metal containers. Do not dump refuse into the local stream or face fines up to 50 dollars.
Clermont County Commissioners approve buying a Super DeLuxe sedan for 1349.96 and selling the 1942 sheriff’s car for 883 with 200 allowance for repair. The engineer will plans for bridge beams, while Batavia advances a partial Memorial Building for fire dept, youth center and library with future phases. The Women’s Christian Temperance Union meets October 14 at 2 30 PM.
Dr. Irwin A. Moon of Moody Bible Institute will present the sound color film The God of Creation at Amelia Baptist Church at 8:00 P M on Monday October 14. The film, produced in the West Coast Moody lab, is the second in Moon’s evangelistic series following They Live Forever which had wide showings nationwide.
The Frank W. Weaver Post of the American Legion plans an installation of new officers at the Batavia Armory. County Commander Dale H. Nichols will install James H. Winnes as Commander, Joseph Laftfelur as First Vice Commander, William F. Brossart as Second Vice Commander, Alonzo P. Garver as Adjutant, Fred A. Rundo as Finance Officer, George H. Drysdale as Chaplain, and William R. Murphy as Sergeant at Arms.
Local Kroger Stores sponsor a jingle contest during October and November to celebrate the firm’s 64th anniversary. Prizes include 5 Hudson cars 25 Crosley Super Shelvador refrigerators and 125 Crosley Playtime radios.

The regular meeting of the Eastern Star will be held Monday evening, October 14, at the Masonic Hall. An installation will take place and refreshments will be served.
