Clermont Enlists Near 200 In October Draft Totals

Clermont county October draft called 811 men. to date 126 accepted. Board No. 1 saw 90 called, 47 to medical depot. about 20 may have enlisted earlier. Board No. 2 reported 79 accepted, excluding the 12th call. Lists of Board No. 1 and No. 2 inductees and available personnel are provided, naming many towns and individuals.

Bricker Seeks Fourth Term Amid Fiscal Record

In his Ohio gubernatorial bid four years ago John W Bricker vowed to balance the unbalanced state budget without new taxes. He was elected and kept the promise. Two years ago he said no new state tax, and kept that pledge as debts were paid or funded through the treasury.

Mt Orab Wins Clermont County League Championship

Mt Orab captured the Clermont County League title last Sunday by defeating Williamsburg 5 to 4 in a tense finish. Mt Orab rallied with three runs in the bottom of the eighth to overturn a 4 2 deficit, marking their second consecutive victory over Williamsburg. Next Sunday Batavia Speedliners travel to Mt Crabs diamond for a 2 30 p m showdown.

Mrs. Sarver Sentenced to Life at Marysville

Cynthia Sarver a 37 year old Afton housewife and mother of three was sentenced in Marysville Ohio to life imprisonment after her conviction for second degree murder in the killing of neighbor Cleve Gillman. The degree reduction allows possible future pardon though she must serve at least ten years. She was taken to the Marysville institute in the coming days.

Clermont Pomona Grange Meeting Promised In Batavia

Clermont Pomona Grange will meet in Batavia on Saturday October 17 at 10 a m with Heber Malott presiding. Morning business, afternoon program at the county home, prizes awarded for county and subordinate Granges, bread baking elimination, crocheting knitting and corn classes. O. L. Page Named Clermont County Man of the Month

O L Page has been named by the county War Bond Committee as Clermont County's Man of the Month for September. State war bond headquarters in Cleveland announced the honor. He will receive a Minute Man citation from the Standard Oil Company of Ohio for top work in the county's war bond drive.

A daring floor treatment uses a large floral chintz or duck fabric laid wall to wall and sealed with several coats of spar varnish to resist wear and dirt. The result resembles fabric preserved under glass.

Registration of Farm Trucks Now Necessary

Columbus issues notice from Clermont County Agricultural USDA War Board designating October 22 23 and 24 as National Farm Truck registration days. Farmers and truckers hauling farm products or supplies may get help from county transportation committees to fill applications. Certificates of War Necessity must be carried on all operating commercial vehicles after November 15. Gasoline tires or repair parts cannot be obtained without this certificate. Application blanks and instructions are being mailed to all 1942 registered vehicle owners for public rental use.

Institute Officers Plan War-time Institutes

Clermont county community institute officers will meet at the 3 A office Tuesday evening Oct 20 to plan 1943 institutes to be held in February. Ohio State University specialist R Bruce Tom will assist in gearing the program to the war effort with agricultural wartime plans and normal institute material. Institutes will be hosted at Newtonsville Bethel Moscow Amelia Goshen Marathon Edenton Williamsburg and Owensville.

Hybrid Corn Varieties Tested at Clermont County Farm

H. S. Elliott, manager of the Clermont county Experiment farm, and workers from the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station husked weighed and sampled moisture from 30 hybrid corn varieties on test this week. The tests, run annually, will yield recommended Clermont county hybrids and results will be published after moisture contents are secured.

Ration Board Announces Fuel Oil and Kerosene Rationing

The Rationing Board led by E C Saxton says fuel oil and kerosene rationing starts this week. Dealers will mail statements to customers and register Oct 15 16. From Oct 19 applications by mail allowed. one third less than last year based on building size. Space heaters covered. Kerosene applications cover a year.

Gasoline Rationing Plans Outlined By Local Board

E C Saxton, chairman of the Rationing Board, describes planned gasoline rationing in Batavia Ohio during late November with two registrations. Auto owners will present ownership certificates at school registration for A books, then a supplemental registration for B or C books. The program requires 40 to 50 full time workers and 7 to 14 part time workers per thousand autos, with offices trained by the OPA state office.
