Main Street Improvement Set to Start in Batavia

Batavia to begin a new $85,000 Main Street project within a week. Concrete 25 foot wide street from Water to Fifth with concrete intersections, plus 6, 8, and 10 inch sewers and 12 and 30 inch storm sewers. Bonds of $11,290 to be sold. bids for sewer pipe due Oct 28. Jack Fuller oversees engineering. Fred Croswell to inspect. Trees may be removed but several could be spared.

Funeral services for H. W. Whitehead held in Cincinnati

H. W. Whitehead, 51, of 8 miles west of Batavia on Route 74, dies of tuberculosis at Union Printers Hospital in Colorado Springs. A World War II veteran and member of Frank W. Weaver Post American Legion of Batavia, he leaves a widow and several children. Funeral service set for 2 PM Wednesday at Frederick's Funeral Home, Corryville, Cincinnati. Legion post members plan to attend.

Clermont National Grangers plan an October 14 banquet at 7 30 pm at Batavia U B church. Apple Pie Baking Contests run to October 21 at Pomona Bethel with two groups for enter and winners proceed to state level if possible. Mt Carmel Glen Este PTA schedules dedication for the new school on Saturday October 14 with Dick Smith delivering the principal address. The program includes a flag ceremony by the Frank Weaver Legion Post, music by Batavia performers, a key presentation to Jacob Andres, and a supper and dance night.

Defense rests in Cole case as not guilty verdict comes

After six hours of deliberation a jury found Joshua Cole not guilty in Common Pleas Court. The trial over a manslaughter charge linked to the August 19 fatal cutting at Club 133 between Bethel and Williamsburg. Cole testified self defense after Woods attacked him.

Black Widow Spider Bite Reported in Clermont County

Robert Schneider, 17, son of William Neales Schneider near Bantam, was bitten while gathering pumpkins on the Ed Harris farm. He received hospital care at Bethesda and returned home Sunday and was back in school. It is the first reported Black Widow bite in Clermont County.

Semi annual tax collection opens in county

The second semi annual collection of Personal and Classified taxes will open Monday October 46. County Treasurer John Friend Jr. announces about 12 000 in Personal taxes and 10 000 in Classified taxes to be collected before November 10. Taxpayers urged to use mail and pay promptly.

Batavia Embalmer John Halbisch Found Dead at 75

John Halbisch of Batavia age 75, a veteran embalmer employed by Stirling & Moore Funeral Directors for 50 years, was found dead in his bed Sunday morning by his daughter. He leaves two brothers Will and Jesse, two sisters Mrs Ed Ansteadt and Mrs Anna Elion, and a daughter Mrs Marjorie Harrison. He belonged to the Batavia IOOF lodge. Funeral from Moore Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 pm with burial in Union Cemetery after services at Moore Funeral Home Monday evening.

Batavia Boys In Auto Crash Injures Reported

Four Batavia youths traveling to Columbus for the Ohio State game were injured when their 1985 Plymouth sedan left the road near Delaware after the driver fell asleep. Wolf 19 suffered a gash and tongue bite. Jones 18 and Dewdney 17 had suspected broken vertebrae and a broken nose. McCord 16 uninjured. All were transported to Jane Case Memorial Hospital. Jones remained hospitalized for observation.

Burglars Held on Grand Larceny Charges in Batavia

Gillis Hopkins and Leonard Tankersley are jailed in Hamilton County on $500 bonds after admitting theft of a Chevrolet truck parts including battery generator radiator coils and tires. Parts valued at $37 were sold to a Cincinnati junk dealer. Tankersley had prior inquiries about the truck. They pled guilty at Batavia mayoral arraignment but could not post bond.

Clermont Delegates Plan to Attend P T A Congress

Clermont delegates will join the Ohio Congress of Parents and Teachers in Columbus October 18 with talks by William Lyon Phelps and visits to the Governor's mansion. The convention expects more than 162 000 members and 8 000 delegates, focusing on education, juvenile programs, and a ballet production plus dinners. Bethel Methodist Church Couples Wed Quietly Sunday

Lucille Lewis and Wendell Fisher were married at Bethel Methodist Church in a simple ceremony at 2 30 p m on Sunday attended by about 75 relatives and friends. Rev Chas Fisher officiated with Alice Juergens as bridesmaid and Donald Fisher best man. The groom works in Cincinnati and the couple will reside at 351 Joselin Avenue Clifton Cincinnati after a two week honeymoon.

Annual Clermont County Corn Husking Contest Opens in Miami Township

The Milford Kiwanis Club sponsors the 1939 event in Miami Township on October 28 at 1 PM with prizes for men boys and ladies in shocking from the shock. The Beech Forest Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met with Mrs. Roy Fuhr in Williamsburg on Tuesday.
