Fire ripped through Harry C. Reids dry cleaning establishment on Main Street Williamsburg Thursday night about eight. The one story brick building owned by J. C. Fuhr also housed Village Fire Department and Council rooms. Building loss estimated at 500 dollars covered by insurance. Reid’s equipment and clothing losses about 2000 dollars not insured. Fire department controlled blaze in under an hour with adequate water. Friends collected funds to aid the family restart.

Underpass Project Near Batavia Set for July Completion

Alleged Chicken Thief Held in Jail
James Binkley of Aston was arrested by Sheriff G G Auxier and brought before Milford Mayor Buckingham on burglary and assault charges. Ohio State University plans elaborate safety and entertainment for Batavia boys and girls during High School Day on Saturday October 7. Twenty eight university departments will showcase exhibits at 10:30 AM, followed by film of last year’s events. Funeral services were held for Alma Dolen wife of the late Maurice Dolen of Bethel. She died after a lingering illness in Bethel after four o clock Thursday morning. She was active in the Bethel Methodist church Eastern Star Loveland chapter where she served as Worthy Matron. She was the eldest of eight children with brothers Norman Fagin of Mt. Holly and Clarence Fagin of Cincinnati surviving. Rev. Chas. Fisher conducted services with Kennedy Funeral Home in charge. Interment followed at Spring Grove cemetery.

Perinton Farmer Dies After Locomotive Collision
Perinton farmer Hack, 60, died in Bethesda Hospital after his stalled machine at a crossing on Round Bottom Road was struck by a locomotive. The crash hurled his machine down the track about 100 yards. He was transported by John Craver Funeral Home ambulance to the hospital.

Batavia Water Supply Improves Intake Amid Flooding Needs
Batavia officials announced completion of a drainage ditch in East Fork creek to raise intake water depth from 2 inches to 7.5 inches, with a temporary dam below the intake. They seek state aid for a dam and WSAs for help, while selling water to needy farmers at 50 cents per 500 gallons. Heavy rain is needed to aid the fish in East Fork creek, as thousands of bass and other species rise to the surface seeking oxygen.
