Edenton Man Charged With First Degree Murder

Charles Conway, 65, faces a first degree murder charge over the October 2 shooting that killed 21 year old Charles Fawley in a corn field one mile west of Edenton. Fawley died after a chest wound despite two blood transfusions from relatives and volunteers. Prosecutor Frank A. Roberts plans to recall the grand jury that indicted Conway for shooting to kill.

Road Levy Approved by WPA for County and Township Roads

Batavia Woman Dies Prominent Local Resident

Batavia widow Mrs. Cora Griffith, widow of Judge O. P. Griffith and daughter of Mose Duckwall, dies at home after a long illness. Survived by son Dr. Mose Griffith of Galesburg and daughter Mrs. Robert Wahl of Batavia, plus sister Mrs. Ella Bradley of Cincinnati. A life resident, funeral set Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the residence.

Holy Trinity Church Batavia to mark 25th anniversary dedication

The 49th Anniversary Holy Trinity Church in Batavia celebrates the 25th anniversary of the present church dedication on October 20 with Masses at 8 and 10, a High Mass with the children’s choir, a grilled steak dinner in the Armory from noon to 8:30, and a $50 treasure chest prize.

Williamsburg Route 74 bridge to open November 15

The new concrete bridge over the East Fork at Williamsburg on Route 74 replaces the 71 year old covered bridge. Steel is in place, steel floors, sills shaping, and soon the concrete ends will be poured. Balustrade to follow after walks. Completion expected to make a county beauty spot with a grand dedication in Williamsburg.

All Star Game Set for October 18 at Williamsville Park

An All Star game features picks from Clermont County League and Mt. Washington Tri State players. R. Brown and Lindsey pitch for the County and Mt. Washington respectively with Harper and Leonard catching, plus notable names Daugherty Schmoltz Cann Dressler Allan and others. If rain or cold forces delay, the game moves to the next Sunday. County Awards for Blue Sky Park and Round Bottom Road Bridges

County Commissioners awarded contracts for Blue Sky Park bridge and Round Bottom Road bridge improvements to low bidders. J S Grosnickle won flooring for 523.85 and Estil Pringle walls for 447.75, with Grosnickle also securing the Round Bottom contract at 724.10 after a near miss by Walter Hogan.

Batavia School Opens Parents Class Observation Day

Batavia public schools announce a Thursday program for parents and patrons to observe class sessions and teaching methods. It runs from 1 30 p m with 15 minute class visits, followed by a 3 p m Parent Teachers Association meeting in the high school study hall.

Grade Crossing Elimination Planned At Afton Overhead

Columbus officials report State Highway Director John J Jester Jr approved the Afton grade crossing elimination plan. The project, tied to a statewide program, would cost 6800 dollars and involve a 7015000 dollars state expenditure. Multiple deaths have occurred at the Route 74 crossing near Batavia, prompting local urgency. Representative John Hayden had Jaster inspect the site to stress its importance.

Obituary: Alonzo C. Weaver Dies at Lebanon Home

Former Clermonter Alonzo C. Weaver died at his home near Lebanon on Sunday October 6. Funeral services are set for Wednesday October 9 at 2 p.m. at O wards Funeral Home in Lebanon with burial in Lebanon. He grew up with his parents Lucia n Weaver and wife near the Red Bridge.

Ten Indicted by Clermont Grand Jury Two Charged

Teachers Meet For Southwestern Ohio Convention In Cincinnati
