Destructive blaze devastates Loveland and New Richmond area

A major fire destroyed half a block of Loveland businesses including Tift’s paint and undertaking, Dr Wakefield’s stable, Militzer’s bakery and Heizel’s saloon, with Dr Bishop’s barn also burned later. Losses totaled thousands with no insurance for the Tift firm and Dormer Bros knitting works wiped out, 100 workers left jobless as rebuilding plans begin.

Eye Cut Out Terrible Injury to Jackson Farmer

Prominent Jackson Township farmer Frank Stymets suffered a severe accident while cutting corn when a knife blade slipped and severed his eye. He was bleeding heavily and taken home for medical aid with the eye reportedly needing removal. His son-in-law was working nearby at the time.
