Town-wide celebration fills Main street with electric illumination and open doors as residents gather to honor the birthplace of a renowned national figure. At 2 pm a ceremony unveils the pedestal with a copper plate inscription while crowds assemble on the riverside.
The community outlines a week of ceremonies led by prominent figures with literary and musical programs. New Richmond Day, Parker’s Academy reunion, and Batavia social events highlight Friday and Saturday with speeches by J B Foraker and H C Corbin. Ben Mittio’s batch returns for a concert in Batavia.

Col Thomas D. Fitch of Troy visits Batavia this week as the paper recalls his long career from 1849 apprentice to 1865 colonel. He is noted for terse writing, integrity, and prompt business methods and stays with Mr. and Mrs. A M Dimmitt, his sister-in-law, during the visit.
The Pleant home of E. C. Patchell at Stonelick hosted a large birthday gathering for his 68th year. The Baptist school joined friends for luncheon and a flow of gifts and well wishes.
Frank Ralph and Harry Moman likely engaged in mining toward Virginie while spending the week with their parents at their delightful Mooredeld home.
A tank explosion at the Vril Light Company power house in Amelia ignited a devastating blaze destroying machinery and freight worth about $20,000 to the company. The blast also damaged the adjacent telephone exchange and Bert Cundiff's residence, though locals saved the dwelling. Two witnesses escaped unharmed. the investigation into the cause continues.
In Boston last Saturday the town voted dry 44 to 0 with no wets. Saloons have operated for ten years and will now face a new corporation tax.
George E Silcott, trained in this office, is welcomed back to Mansfield where he heads the printing bureau at the reformatory teaching fourteen young men the printing craft. He handles much work for state offices and is popular with officials and friends alike.
William Manefold and his three sons Char ley Hart and William are listed as engaged in business in Cinned Dakota and New Mexico in the home-coming roster.
Lowell Roudebush recalls a Kentucky swing through Winchester Lexington and Ashland, noting bluegrass industry tobacco warehouses and Society of Equity, with visits to Henry Clay’s Ashland estate, a Clay monument, Gen John Hunt Morgan’s gravesite, local colleges, and the Louisville State Fair as well as Georgetown colt trade and Seelbach hotel encounters. Tobacco, labor scarcity, and stock raising are emphasized.
Churchgoers filled Sunday services in large numbers with sermons honoring General Grant. At the Presbyterian church Rev Howard Billman preached by invitation and at the M E pulpit Mr Burdsall spoke as usual. The U B church heard Rev Fischer in his farewell before leaving for Cleveland. Weather was gloomy but worshippers attended.
The 1st regiment O N G will hold a life-range shooting contest at Hartwell beginning October 6. Cash prizes are offered and an officers revolver match awards a silver loving cup. No experts may compete.
Charley Cline of Chile Kentucky died after being shot by Albert Weisbrodt who caught him burglarizing the Weisbrodt store in Bradford. Weisbrodt fired when he saw an intruder, a loaded shotgun ending Cline’s life. Cline, aged about 50, was known for kleptomania and mixed reputation, leaving a widow and several children.
A county jail reports a baby boy born to prisoner Mrs. Frank Storey while awaiting trial for murdering her father-in-law. The newborn was named Paul, honoring Sheriff Paul Rapp who arranged care. mother and father are both 17 and illiterate, with the mother described as Italian.
Batavia citizens and lawyers are invited to a Monday evening lecture at the courthouse by Hon James C McMath attorney for the National Harvester Company. Once a Clermont prosecuting attorney and long time Harvester lawyer he leads a large staff and has a national Bar Association distinction. Local friends and relatives of Mrs Jennie Jones and Mrs Louie Denham join Mrs Alice Lewis and others in welcoming him.
Henry G Gardner of Amelia seeks a reward after his wife and child vanish since June 12 while she visited friends in Indiana. The wife and several children remain missing. Joseph A Huntington, also of Amelia and a barber, is reported missing since early June after leaving his wife. No reward is offered for his return.
At a Milford district conference Rev. A N Spahr presiding elder recounted over half a century in the M E ministry. He spoke of joy and sorrow, the deaths at his door, and nearing retirement as he reflected on marriages helped and souls won. The audience responded with warm affection.
The fifth annual Rebekah convention for district 65 met in Eden ton on September 28 1907 with Josie Lockwood presiding. Delegations from Williamsburg were largest. State president Nora B. Kagg of Findlay spoke. Officers elected for 1908 include President Mrs. Belle Rice Vice President Mrs. Wm Barr Secretary Miss Mattie Barr Treasurer Miss Michie Pierce Chaplain Mrs. Hancock. Next gathering slated for Mt. Orab.
