Clermont County Commissioners agree with township groups to designate Friday October 31 from 6 to 8 p m as trick or treat night. Goshen Township is the only exception with no inclusion in the plan.
Clermont County Transit Board will hold its sixth regular session at Sem Villa Theatre Milford on Wednesday October 22. Free transportation to the meeting is provided for area residents and public participation is welcome. CART office at 732 7144 for more information.
The House of Horrors haunted house opens Friday October 17 and runs through Friday October 31 at the old Spotted Horse Lounge on SR 28 and Holland Drive two miles east of I 275. Hours are 7 to midnight Fridays and Saturdays and 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. Milford High School marching band sponsors.
Batavia Clermont County Treasurer Albert Hines reports 575746.93 dollars in interest collected from Treasury Bills Certificates of Deposit and Repurchase Agreements during the period.
The Union Township Republican Women's Club meets at Christine McBride's home 4855 Beechwood Rd at 8 p m on Thursday Oct 9. Members will discuss Republican campaign progress and all are urged to attend.
Batavia hosts the Little Miami and East Fork Rivers Citizens Historical Meeting Friday Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. in the Cincinnati Gas & Electric Building. Charles Duncan presents a program on the old homes of Clermont County. Public invited.
The Clermont County Scottish Rite Club will hold its fall meeting Saturday October 11 at the Clermont County Special Education Training Center at US 50 and Benton Road Owensville. Members are reminded the venue is changed from Clermont Northeastern Middle School.
The Amelia Music Boosters sponsor a Tag Day on Saturday October 11 in Amelia area shopping centers to raise funds for Amelia Middle and High School music programs. High school band drill team choir and middle school chorus and band will participate to collect donations for instruments special music and uniforms.

The BMOP Fire Dept Women’s Auxiliary hosts a Halloween Dance on Oct 25 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the firehouse on SR 125 North 132 Amelia. Clermont County voters hear from candidates at Meet the Candidates Night at Clermont College Auditorium. Topics include zoning, landfill, law enforcement, jail, economy, safety, and the county administrator. A dispute over treasurer staff numbers arose as candidates debated staffing.
A panel of media members and local business leaders will host a Wednesday forum at Clermont College featuring four county commissioner candidates. Democrat Jerry Carlier opposes incumbent Republican Harold Bissantz for one seat, while Republican Dale Romohr challenges incumbent Democrat Jerome Wiesenhahn for the other. Candidates may challenge proposed panel members. Bissantz reportedly objected to two names.
The Greater Cincinnati Building and Construction Trades Council affiliated with AFL-CIO endorsed Harold Bissantz for Clermont County commissioner. The Cincinnati AFL-CIO Labor Council had earlier endorsed Jerry Carrier for the same post. Executive Secretary James Harlow cited Bissantz’s visibility as a candidate. Contd. to page 5.
Cler mont County officials along with U S EPA and Ohio EPA representatives discuss funding for the Middle East Fork Facilities Project to improve sewerage near East Fork Lake. County Sanitary Engineer Don Reckers favors withdrawing from the 75 percent federal grant plan, as Dennis Long cites an unresolved municipal definition obstacle. The group notes a grant may yet be awarded, but no definite commitment exists.
Issues of law enforcement and drunken driving dominated the League of Women Voters meet the candidates night. Incumbent judges Rosenhoffer and Schaeffer urged license suspension and jail as needed to curb DWI cases. Dexter Bastin and others stressed jail expansion to deal with rising DWIs and limited current facilities.
Ford Motors Transmission Plant at Afton paid over 3 million in 1980 taxes, significantly increasing Batavia Local School District and Batavia Township funds. The 1980 allocation includes 2,283,937 to the schools, 345,556 to the township, 375,927 to the Clermont County general fund, and 120,580 to Great Oaks Vocational School District. Ford’s 1980 tax bill totals 3,128,000, with real estate about 28,000 and tangible personal property around 3,100,000. A 1978 15 year tax abatement on building real estate saves about 623,000 yearly.
A fire at Live Oaks Career Development Campus on Buckwheat Road damaged the main electrical panel, cutting power across the building and disabling fire alarms. Miami East Fire Department responded around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, with students evacuated as staff, using extinguishers, limited the blaze. Chief Howard Vaught said the panel caused smoke and a hot fire. a temporary hookup will allow classes to resume while inspectors check the system.
