Ohio turkey market outlook and Columbus Grove meeting notes
Ohio Extension Poultry Marketing Specialist Ralph L. Baker predicts Thanksgiving turkeys will mostly cost about 35 cents per pound with occasional 29 cent specials for heavy toms and 5 to 26 cents higher for light toms and hens. He notes Ohio’s turkey crop up about 11 percent and that some turkeys must be shipped from other states. Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman will visit Columbus Grove October 15 at Putnam County High School to hear farmers’ views on farm programs, answer questions, and discuss future government farm policies.
