Ohio turkey outlook predicts higher prices this fall
Ohio State University Extension Poultry Marketing Specialist Ralph L. Baker foresees few 25 or 27 cent turkey specials for Thanksgiving. Most turkeys will sell around 35 cents, with heavy toms 29 cents at most and light toms and hens 5 to 20 cents higher. The 1963 turkey crop rises about 11 percent to 300,000 more birds, yet demand will exceed local supply, requiring shipments from other states and lifting Ohio prices. A Columbus Grove meeting on Oct. 15 will let farmers question Secretary Freeman about farm programs and attitudes toward administration and legislation.
