Woods New Proxy of Cancer Unit

Charles P. Woods of Mt. Carmel will head the Clermont County Unit of the American Cancer Society as president for two years. Offiers elected include Rev. John Benson Amelia as vice president Roy Fleury Williamsville as treasurer and Miss Charleen Hook Mt. Carmel as secretary. New board members Dr. C. Douglas Smith Batavia Dan M. County weighs airport plan and funds in Ohio

The county eyes a potential airport with up to 100000 in state bond funds from a 290 million May bond issue. Ohio Division of Aviation expects an airport authority to qualify for the money. county has not yet received the state application. In other notes, welfare director Wayne Oney and officials from Clermont County review programs, and offices close for Columbus Day.

40'ers Prove In Surprise Alert

An alert was activated at 3 p.m. and by 3:55 p.m. pre assigned posts were covered. Mobile units covered roads to Batavia and Bethel while a base unit connected with Civil Defense Director Covaty. Walkie talkies were placed in key facilities. In 35 minutes 14 mobile units four walkie talkies two base units and nine standby bases were deployed under Ray Shaw's leadership.

Appalachian Road Study Approved for Ohio Corridor Project

The U S Bureau of Public Roads approves a $238 500 preliminary study by Franklin Engineering Associates to map a 176 mile Appalachian Development Highway corridor from Summerside to Belpre Ohio. The plan funds 70 30 ARC and state shares with reports due in 12 months.

Woman Killed On Dead Man's Curve

The crash killed a woman and injured others on Dead Man's Curve. Investigators identified driver Ronald Chambers, 29, of 2560 Ingleside Ave. He was treated at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital for minor injuries.

Support for County Hospital Grows in Cincinnati Area

Endorsements from the Public Health Federation of the Greater Cincinnati area and the Planning Division back a $2.1 million bond issue to support County Hospital. Clermont Community Action Commission approved the hospital at its last meeting. County commissioners received a letter from John A. Armleder offering land near Batavia, but no authority to accept it. Governance boards will be formed after passage and site decision.

Legion Auxiliary To Vote In Special Election At Oct 8 Meeting

Mt. Carmel Williamsville unit 72 of the American Legion Auxiliary will meet October 8 at 8 p.m. at the Post home on Weiner Lane. A special election will choose two new executive members. Nominations stay open and members are urged to bring shaving cream for Cincinnati VA Hospital veterans. The VA hospital hosts another blood donation day October 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a high need for blood.

Harvest Ball Plays By James and Jimmy James Orchestra

The Harvest Ball, sponsored by the Williamsburg Junior Woman's Club, will be held Saturday November 6 with the Jimmy James Orchestra performing from 9 30 p m to 1 30 a m at the New Rich mond Ohio Township Democrat Club. Winder Named Truant Officer

Winder will serve as truant officer coordinating work and preparing court cases for chronic attendance problems. The plan includes hiring Winder as a part time probation officer by the probate court to improve efficiency in addressing school attendance issues.

Lions Candy Day Proclaimed for Amelia Event

Mayor William Pommert proclaims Saturday October 9 as Lions Candy Day to support the Ohio Lions Eye Research Foundation. The statewide drive runs October 3 through October 9 to raise funds.
