Burley Pool Vote Shifts as Signatures Hit Half the Crop

Reports indicate only about half of the 1909 Burley tobacco crop signed for pooling. Kentucky shows 196 000 acres planted with 100 000 joined. Batavia Woman's Club Builds Public Library Torch of Civic Growth

The Batavia Woman's Club expanded from a book shower to a public library and reading room with about 2,000 volumes. Funds come from club entertainments and fairs, providing access at thirty cents per yearly subscription or two cents per volume per week. The effort inspires nearby clubs to follow suit.
