A vivid account from Monterey Mexico dated September 18 1909 describes a prolonged downpour August 25 to 27 that swelled the Catrina river and swept away hundreds. The San Luisito district suffered greatest loss with houses toppled and many people carried away. Two priests Juan and Pedro Aguiero sheltered children on a chapel roof before being overwhelmed.

Ninth annual conference of Ohio State Board of Health
The ninth annual conference of the Ohio State Board of Health will be held in Cincinnati October 14 15 1909 at the County Memorial Building Elm street near Twelfth. Representatives from village boards with population under 3000 and 45 county townships are invited. Delegates from each board will attend and discuss topics such as diphtheria quarantine vaccination rabies rural sanitation vital statistics and more. Prominent physicians and health officers will lecture and Clermont and other Sixth district counties are expected to send delegates. The event promises valuable information and benefits to the state.

Ground breaks for German Catholic church at Clermont
On September 27 1909 ground was broken for a German Catholic church to be brick and stone 70 feet deep 36 wide with modern finish. George L Shields of Bantam is contractor. Edifice may be ready for worship by Christmas with corner stone laying dedication and curate installation to follow. Services held at chapel October 3 at 9 30 AM.

Burley Tobacco Society Plans Pool Election
The Burley Tobacco Society closed its speaking campaign last Saturday. On Wednesday pledge books listing acreage in the Burley district will be turned in at county seats in Kentucky and Ohio and wired to Winchester headquarters. Growers will vote Thursday on joining the pool and fixing the crop price, with speculation that leaf tobacco could reach as high as 86 cents.
