Mrs Eva Lanham of Chile was struck by aPorts Mouth beer truck driven by Henry Helgenburg while attempting to rescue a chicken. She died instantly from a fractured skull and broken neck. Coroner Sam White and Sheriff Auxier investigated. the driver was held for investigation.
Amelia Woman's Club holds its first meeting on Saturday October 7 at the M E Parish Rooms with a 1 PM luncheon. The program features music by Miss Dorothy Dunn and Mrs Geo Reed, a talk titled A Glimpse into the Future by Miss Nellie Coleman, and My Trip Abroad by Dorothy Dunn.
George Knowles, 71, of Felicity, sustained serious injuries after an automobile collision in Norwood Monday night. Doctors report a fractured skull and nose along with injuries to the left knee and scalp. The driver involved was exonerated.
A Howard Hancock 79 longtime caretaker at Grant Memorial Park Pt Pleasant died suddenly Sunday morning while getting out of bed. He leaves a widow and a son Harry of New York. He served seven years registering over 60 000. He and his wife marked their 55th anniversary. Funeral Wednesday at 2 30 from Grant Memorial church Pt Pleasant. Burial at Laurel.
The Sardinia centennial last week drew record crowds each day and night. Committees cooperated to provide a round of pleasure with gorgeous decorations, warm welcome, comfortable visitors, and ample music and entertainment throughout.
A combined Milk Producers and Farmers Meeting will be held on October 18 in Batavia. All are welcome to attend to hear the farmers' side discussed by C. H. Boyer.
The piece warns against burning damp leaves and outside the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. citing an ordinance. It notes many will pile leaves on gardens and calls burning odor offensive, urging compliance with local law.
Growers must label containers of fresh fruits vegetables and honey with name and address net contents grade and origin under the Stand ardization Law effective Sept 15 1933. Big success marked Blanchester’s 100th anniversary of the town’s layout with Hon. Clarence J. Brown chairing the program. Governor White attended the ribbon cutting for the new street. A large parade included a Cincinnati cavalcade and bands. visitors were welcomed by Brown and his committee. Reverend and Mrs. Budd attended the Kentucky Conference session in Covington.
Thursday night officials announce a Clermont milk producers mass meeting at Batavia Town Hall on Tuesday October 5 with speakers Paul A. Young of Ohio State College Dr C R Colburn Clermont County health officer and Walter Bee head of Clermont Milk Producer. Topics include the Ohio Milk Commission functions sanitary rules and a proposed standard county milk price of six cents per pint and eleven cents per quart subject to approval.
Batavia eyes a new bridge at Main Street foot on Route 74 to replace the out of service iron bridge damaged by the spring flood. The Town Council has secured most easements and certified them to the State Highway Department. Contracts are slated for letting in late October as an emergency measure sponsored by the council.
The Health Department in Batavia has received milk permit applications. Every person who sells milk or cream at retail must secure these permits. Dr. C. R. Colburn, H. C.
Prosecutor Frank A. Roberts filed an injunction to stop Brown County from awarding a road contract to Estil Pringle. Judge J.W. Babgy overruled defense motions for dismissal, and the case moved to a verdict phase after the court heard evidence. The dispute centers on placing 600 yards of stone on the Owensville Belfast Road in Stonelick Township. Pringle bid $64 more than the Ohio Gravel Company’s lowest bid. Judge Bagby took the case under advisement with a decision expected within 10 days.
Word says Ohio will set up ten Citizen Conservation Camps by January 1. Clermont County will host one camp with 200 members to reforest 2000 acres of barren land. Batavia pursues a site on land recently bought by cemetery trustees, seven acres amid 2000 acres, near town with good water and electric lights. Bethel and Pt Pleasant also seek camps, Hills rough timber required for sites.
The Ohio electorate faces five major questions at the November polls. National and state gun interest center on prohibition repeal and a constitutional amendment. Fifty two delegates will be chosen to Ohio's constitutional convention in Columbus on December 5 to decide ratification or rejection.
James Phillip of Amelia with Gustin and a young child traveled from Ten Mile when the car skidded near Lindale, striking a tree. Phillip suffered a fractured skull and remained unconscious. the Gustin child was badly injured. Dr. Mott rushed Phillip to Bethesda Hospital. Dr. Scarce treated the child. The auto was wrecked.
Mrs Josephine Lyle of upper Main Street fractured her hip after a fall last Saturday. She was taken to a Cincinnati hospital for treatment.
Capt Scudder announced at Ripley that Clermont County will receive a CCC camp in October, with Bethel or Pt Pleasant as possible locations. Capt Kennon of Ft Thomas will decide the final site.
Final arrangements for the four big days fox hunt in Clermont county will be made October 16 at the home of Less Williams Route 125 below Bethel. Clarence Ungelheam Batavia president will preside. Meetings October 24 25 26 27 with headquarters Batavia Armory. Over 100 fox hounds from Ohio Kentucky Indiana will enter. The hunt closes with a beach show and big feed. Announcements later.
Julia and Dorothy Glover hosted a six o'clock four course birthday dinner for Mrs. Stella Glover in Miss Julia's Norwood apartment. All members of the sewing club attended and presented a fireless cooker. The Glover sisters are noted for their cooking and charm.
Two withdrawals have been authorized for the November election ballots. George Lucas, candidate for mayor of Bethel, and A Coleman, candidate for member of council from Loveland, will not appear on the ballot.
Batavia defeated N. R. Tramps 14 to 6 last Sunday as Batavia batemen piled up 16 hits. Williams held the champions to 6 scattered hits. Kinner had 4 singles in six trips. Hogberg Brooks each 3 hits. Cann and Z Anstead 2. Crowd on hand. Next Sunday Amelia club visits Batavia for a school-lot game with Williams and Borgel opposing on the mound.
The Batavia Woman's Club will hold its first meeting Saturday October 7 at 1 p m at the Presbyterian church. The program includes a luncheon and a report of retiring officers Mrs Daugherty 1982 and Mrs Huntington 1938 plus music.
Clermont county grand jury opens in session with Judge Charlee White presiding and Prosecutor Roberts in charge. After instructions the jurors retire to hear mostly minor cases. Docket includes non support liquor law violations and burglary with few witnesses.
Ralph C. Thomas leads county level committees across Ohio to push the Home Rule amendment. C. P. Taft II heads the state sponsoring group with Newton D. Baker and Dr. W. C. Thompson among supporters. Proponents argue reorganization will reduce waste and debt while letting counties choose best government form.
The Y P D Conference meets in Batavia on October 7 for its fifteenth annual rally at the U B Church. Sessions run 10 AM 2 PM and 7 30 PM with a noon picnic at Roudebush camp and a 6 PM banquet. Theme is Living Christlike Today Can the Youth of Today Put Into Practice the Teachings of Christ presented by district workers including Rev Samuel.
The Mt. Carmel Grange sponsored a Saturday night show at the Grange Hall featuring flowers quilts and farm products. Mrs J M Wiseman and Mrs E S Rush of Batavia judged flowers and quilts with help from Mrs Bickel. It was the first show.
After a several month delay the village of Bethel gains a $35500 payment from the R F C to cover costs for its recently installed water works system. Bethel is among the first in the state to use R F C funds for this project.
The O. K. Tobacco Warehouse at Ripley will gain an addition about one third larger. The contract for the expansion was let on October 8. Attendees at the American Legion Convention in Chicago included Mr. and Mrs. Harold Nichols Miss Wilma Brown Kenneth Hillen Mrs. Gertrude Spencer and Brice Hendrixson.
