Gifts For Yanks Fund Drive Opens In Ohio

Frank Weaver Post 237 of the American Legion joins hundreds of Ohio posts to support Gifts for the Yanks Who Gave. The statewide effort, started by Eddie Cantor in World War II, funds gifts and activities for veterans in 17 state hospitals, five VA hospitals, and the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Sandusky, with totals surpassing 68 thousand dollars. Checks to Brice Hendrixson in Batavia fund the program, while gifts to VA shops and canteen books total over 45 thousand dollars and 14 TV color sets for VA facilities.

Bond Sales Soar in Clermont County October Report

Charles Schneider, chairman of the Clermont County Volunteer Savings Bonds, reported October sales totaling $69,911. By month end the county reached 132.7 percent of its annual savings goal.

East Fork Dam Bids Due Dec 27 for Second Phase

Bids for the second phase of the East Fork Dam project will be opened Dec 27. The phase includes a 200 ft high earth fill dam with spillway and two saddle dams. The project crosses the East Fork of the Little Miami River near Slade Road southeast of Batavia.

Nuclear topic to be discussed by Cincinnati Gas & Electric official

Superintendent Joe Raga of the Electric Operating Department at Cincinnati Gas and Electric will discuss the nuclear topic at a Carmel Kiwanis meeting. The gathering is set for Wednesday December 6 at 6 pm in the West Clermont Board of Education Building located at 550 Cincinnati Batavia Pike.

Blake Drops Vote Recount in Clermont County Race

Arthur Blake withdraws recount bid after a preliminary tally shows Stanley Cann leading Clermont County Commissioner race by 157 votes across 41 precincts. Blake sought recounts in 55 of 126 precincts. early results favored Blake with 114 gain, 104 in the first precinct, but later gains declined.

Miami Township Launches State’s First Planned Unit Development

The Miami Township trustees approved a Planned Unit Development PUD becoming the first in Ohio to initiate such a project. Trustee members Roll Hawley Todd Don Thurnall Bruce Fields Herb Sebastian and Ray Riehle supported the plan highlighting flexible zoning for larger tracts, advanced design and efficient land use. The measure aims to improve layout and accommodate technology and population density while maintaining policy controls. Final approval came at Monday evening’s meeting.

Free X rays in Batavia by Tuberculosis Unit

The Christmas Seal Mobile Xray Unit will visit Batavia near the Court House on Friday December 1. It operates 1 to 4 pm and 6 30 pm to 9 pm offering free chest x rays to anyone 18 years or older. The service supports the Christmas Seal Campaign now underway.

Southeastern Ecumenical Ministry sponsors area church youth groups to collect canned goods toys and cash on December 3 for Christmas baskets aiding more than 100 families last year.
