Legion Chairmen Named For County Neediest Kids Fund

County American Legion posts appoint chairmen to manage gifts for Clermont County Neediest Kids Christmas Fund. Volunteers collect toys clothing and money, with multiple collection points and 100 percent of funds used for children in need.

Ison Appeal Taken Under Advisement

The First District Court of Appeals heard Don Ison’s bribery appeal in Batavia Tuesday and took the case under advisement. Arnold Morelli argued no evidence supports guilt while Prosecutor Ralph Hill said Ison used his county commissioner position for personal gain. Ison was convicted on three of four indictments and remains free on bond as the appeal proceeds.

Clare Clark Named Commodity Center Manager in Batavia

Mrs. Clare Clark of Batavia has been appointed by Republican commissioners Zenas Anstaett and Charles Hook as manager of the Welfare Department's commodity distribution center. Democrat Charles F. Clark voted against. Starting salary is 264 dollars per month. The center will distribute surplus foods, provide clothing, serve as an employment office for relief recipients, and expand work-for-benefit programs. No welfare caseworker appointment yet. Rumpke Road Home Owners Association sought inclusion in county sewer feasibility study. petitions will be distributed to property owners.

Miss Henke Wins First In State Baking Contest

Marie Henke Batavia Grange secretary won first place in the state Grange bread baking contest. The event featured 87 entries with Henke earning top honors. Elizabeth Roos won county first in the embroidered pillow case contest.

West Clermont School Levy Defeated in Board Recount

The board of elections conducted a recount Monday for the West Clermont school levy, showing the measure defeated by two votes. The result confirms the levy failure after initial tallies.

Levy Recount Narrows Gap but Fails in County Vote

In Hamilton County the school levy remained defeated by 74 votes after a recount. The tally stood 2990 for and 3064 against, with slight shifts in one precinct where 10 extra favorable votes appeared. Batavia Township Precinct F swung to 82 for and 109 against.

Navy Secretary Connally to address Cincinnati Bar seminar

Navy Secretary John Bowden Connally Jr. will be principal speaker at the Cincinnati Bar Association seminar on The Tactics and Strategy of the Communist Conspiracy during the quarterly dinner Friday Dec. 8 at the Netherland Hilton Hotel. Three afternoon sessions will cover phases of communism. Connally, with a wartime record and diverse background in law and business, has led Radio Station KVET and served as director of several corporations including New York Central Railroad. He was born in 1917 and holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Texas.

Gas Tax Funds Distribute Across Counties and Townships

State Auditor James A. Rhodes announced gasoline tax distributions totaling 2.8216 million to 88 counties and 1327 townships in the calendar year. Counties receive 20 000 each from November funds and townships 800 each, part of the eleventh distribution with final municipal shares due next month.

Columnists Mother Dies At Hospital

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Haney 68 of Sharonville were held at Schmidt-Chonau funeral home in Sharonville after she died Friday November 24 in a Cincinnati hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage following surgery. She was widow of Andrew W. Haney and mother of James Haney of Batavia also surviving Dorothy Honerlaw, Dorothy Murray, Bessie Jackson, John Theiss plus six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

County Officials to View Moral Re-Armament Film

County Commissioner Zenas Anstaett will sponsor a 3 30 p m showing of Men of Brazil at Common Pleas Court for county officials and employees. The film covers labor union cooperation against communist influence with real workers acting. A 6 30 p m showing is planned for December 5 at New Richmond Presbyterian Church for Kiwanis, with more local showings in two weeks.

Annual DAR Essay Contest Opens for Clermont and Brown Students

Beech Forest Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution invites fifth to eighth graders in Clermont and Brown Counties to enter an American History essay contest on the theme An Historic Figure in My State. Essays must be 600 to 1500 words, include student details, and be received by January 1 1962. Three prizes will be awarded with winning entries advancing to state competition. Two Fires Hit BMOP Fire Crews Respond Quickly

Amelia BMOP firefighters battled two early week blazes, one at the Clark residence on Mt Holly Lindale Road where an overheated furnace ignited floors and walls causing about 5000 dollars in damage and loss of living room furniture and kitchen appliances. The family went to relatives. The second fire occurred Tuesday at 9 am when brakes on a tandem truck owned by Charles Grimes ignited on Ohio Pike west of town.

Joseph Sentenced On Five Charges In Ohio Case

Joseph A. Joseph pleaded guilty to five charges after a week of burglaries in Clermont County. He received consecutive prison terms: auto theft two to twenty years, armed robbery ten to twenty five, assault with intent to rape one to fifteen, and assault with a deadly weapon one to five. The sentences stem from robberies including a Mulberry kitchen home incident and car thefts.
