V. F. W. Installs Officers at Batavia Ceremony

The Veterans of Foreign Wars held a public installation Sunday in Batavia Armory for the Clermont County Chapter 3954. Deputy Commander Thomas H. Feltz of Ohio presided with Irwin Kain as master of ceremonies as officers including Charles Shinkle and Roy W. Brookings were installed before a crowd of over 200.

Forget-Me-Not Sale Promises Veterans Aid Drive

December 8 and 9 volunteers in Clermont County will wear the Forget-Me-Not slogan to urge citizens to support the fundraiser for the Disabled American Veterans. The drive, led by Pauline McCoy and the Batavia headquarters, aims to fund rehabilitation services and emergency relief for veterans disabled by war.

Legion Drive to Gift Disabled Vets in Ohio Hospitals

The seven Clermont County American Legion Posts organize a county wide drive to parcel gifts for disabled veterans in government hospitals nationwide. Citizens are urged to donate war stories books maps cards stationery socks clothing and tobacco products and deliver duplicates to local Legion or Auxiliary members for transport to Batavia Armory on December 10 for distribution to Ohio hospital units.

Local Bond Drive Nears Quota in Batavia District

Batavia Banking District chair P. F. Jamieson reports 71 percent of the Sixth War Loan quota reached with three weeks left. Subscribed total stands at $101,700 of $143,000 as house-to-house canvassing continues and a $100 Bond subscription is urged to hasten victory.

Clermont Sends 22 Into Service in November Call

Clermont County sent 22 men into the armed forces in the November call. They were inducted at Ft. Hayes in Columbus and listed by boards and towns including Loveland Amelia Batavia and Newtown with names such as David Early Clifford Morris Jack Seward and Louis Holfer among others.

New Richmond Legion Home Nears Completion

At its November 27 meeting in the new Ohio Street Legion Home Post 550, John Farina Post reports final arrangements for the title transfer. Building Fund deposits reached the amount needed on November 24, with 85 days of effort from community and World War I and II veterans.

Revenue Office Warns Deadline For Withholding Exemptions

Thomas A. Gallagher, collector of internal revenue for the First Ohio District, urges all employees to file new Form W-4 withholding certificates by December 1 under the 1944 act. The form lists exemptions to guide employers on withholding. unused certificates expire December 31, 1944, and new ones take effect with wages after January 1, 1945.

Final Distribution of 1943 Motor Vehicle Tax

Ohio transfers 1,747,821.04 to counties and cities from 1943 motor vehicle registration fees. Total 19,791,595.04 for the year, with 77 percent to local governments and 23 percent retained for state highway maintenance.
