Ison Loses Vote Recount. Houser Declared Commissioner

The recount of 30 precincts sought by John W. Houser, Moscow Democrat, ended Monday afternoon with Houser declared elected county commissioner by 102 votes over Donlson. The official tally shows Ison winner by 64 votes. Houser gained 101 votes in Stone Lick South and 64 in Williamsburg West. Edgar Mosbacker, incumbent recorder, requested a recount of all 80 precincts. in five precincts counted Monday, Shebesta gained three votes.

Health Board lease bids set for county property

Clermont County Commissioners Zenas Anstaett and Fred Croswell moved to solicit bids by noon on Monday December 3 for leasing county property to the Board of Health. Charles Clarke opposed. Last year the Pancher storeroom lease was invalidated due to a 20 day waiting period not observed.

State Demands Immediate Real Estate Appraisal Across County

Ohio Board of Tax Appeals orders an instant reappraisal of all county real estate. Current values sit at 35 percent of market. 50 percent is needed to align with state norms. Last appraisal was 1946 with 50 percent of 1941 costs. Estimated cost up to $3 per parcel for 30,000 parcels could reach $90,000. Auditor hopes to defer to 1959 or 1960 due to building boom. Also a Loveland crash damages house and car at about $1,300.

Church Votes OK For New Addition At Batavia

The First Methodist Church of Batavia unanimously approved a $60,000 two story education and fellowship addition. A January canvass will fund the project, and a building committee led by Charles Daugherty Dale Miller Jim Hodges Ed Burger and John Friend will solicit bids. Construction is set to start in May.

Snider Orchestra to Play at Batavia Charity Ball

Billy Snider and his Kentucky Colonels will perform for the seventh time at Batavia Armory on Saturday evening for the Charity Ball. The Batavia Junior Woman's Club reports plans to serve more dancing patrons than last year and to make December 1 another outstanding social event.

Fumes From Faulty Flue Sickens Dreamland Patrons

A faulty flue and sudden weather change caused carbon monoxide seepage at the Dreamland Skating Rink on Rt 125 Friday night. About half the patrons were affected, with 36 treated at Brown County Hospital and released. Carl Strunk and William Jones were more seriously affected and sent to Cincinnati General Hospital via Williamsville Life Squad. The State Highway Department will accept bids by Dec 11 to widen 5.3 miles of State Route 125 to a four lane highway from the Hamilton County line to Amelia.

Clermont weekly collections from prepaid tax receipts for the week ending November 10 1956 totaled 16466 39 announced by State Treasurer Roger W Tracy The figure rose 473 84 from 15992 55 the comparable week a year earlier Year to date fiscal receipts total 300007 02 down 31925 82 from last year’s same period.

Incoming Officials To Get Pay Boosts

County officials elected at the recent election will receive salary increases when they take office on Jan. 1. Commissioners Zenas Anstaett and John Houser will get 3600 annually, Clark remains at 3054, treasurer Friend Jr. to 5400, engineer Rush to 6900, clerk of Common Pleas Parker to 4500, sheriff Dericks to 4500, recorder Shebesta to 4500, prosecutor Hill to 4800, coroner Gruber to 1400, deputies Hutchinson and Richey to custody at Mansfield Reformatory after sentencing for breaking and entering.

Robbery Victim Dies Rites Today

Funeral services for Jack E. Shuck 32 of Pt. Pleasant are set for 2 p.m. at Lew White Memorial with burial in Greenmound Cemetery. He died Monday from head wounds after being struck and robbed outside a card game at Plainville Miami Gardens. He is survived by Stella his widow and his parents.

Judges review Ohio court dockets in latest meeting

Judge John W. McMillan administrative assistant to Chief Justice Carl Weygandt joined Judge Harry Britton of Common Pleas and Judge Orville Halbisch of Juvenile and Probate last week to check docket status. McMillan gave Clermont a good rating in the report to the Chief Justice.

Batavia Plans Drive to Attract Industry with New Brochure

Batavia Business Men's Association received a two color brochure to lure industry to the village. Led by Gene Gordon the group will brief leaders in Batavia and seek support at a December meeting. Copies will be sent by Cincinnati Gas and Electric and the Norfolk and Western Railway to prospective industrialists.

Plant Room To Open For Public Use

The Courier moves to a new Maine Street publishing plant in Batavia marking a 119 year history in Clermont County. An open house will be announced later with basement space planned as a community meeting venue this winter. The facility will offer public parking and increased accessibility for county organizations. Details on basement facilities will follow.
