Three Clermont County pharmacies Batavia Amelia Williamsville cleared shelves of magazines citing distributor pressure and replaced them with reputable children’s books and games. The move sparked nationwide letters supporting the effort, with several stores pledging to follow.

State Rules No On Blue Bell Permit

Shelburne of the Blue Bell Tavern in Williamsburg has been denied a D-3 liquor permit by the Ohio Department of Liquor Control after a Oct 25 hearing at the Batavia Armory. Protests by Rev. C W Pemberton and Rev. D G Lach were cited as the basis for the control board’s decision.

Court House Space Study Urges Additions in Clermont County

A county committee appointed by Clermont County Commissioners urged construction of an addition to the courtroom building to relieve crowding in the Recorder Probate and Treasurer offices. It recommended partially converting the maintenance building to a records room and moving archives to available spaces. The report supports reallocating space in the Sheriff Clerk and Auditor offices and notes health department lease bids were halted.

Aged Man Killed In Street Mishap In Batavia

Fred Schwab aged 79 of Batavia was killed Tuesday night after being struck by a car at Second and Main streets. Hazel Carrington 26 of Batavia drove the car turning north. Schwab died from basal skull fracture. Survived by a sister Anna Kissick Cincinnati a brother Arthur Hamilton and half brother Charles Akron. Funeral arrangements by W Sterling Moore funeral home.

Machine May Cut Thousands From Reappraisal Job

County officials plan to speed property reappraisal and tax bill printing using a Univac system. An $8,500 punch press and interpreter will print tax duplicates and pills, replacing two part time workers. The new method could save several thousand dollars and update records daily. Samaritan Man Injured in 3 Car Tangle in Mt Carmel

Tom Pfeiffer, 19, of Mt. Carmel, was injured Friday evening when his car, standing behind a stalled vehicle, was hit from behind by Ralph Stewart. The impact pinned Pfeiffer between bumpers, injuring his left leg. Stewart faces a charge for failing to stop within the assured clear distance ahead.

N W Engineer Dies At Throttle

Kyle E. Foley age 63 of Wheelersburg Ohio an Norfolk and Western Railway engineer died on his passenger train engine at 9 30 a m Thursday He was stricken at Perin town west of Batavia and pronounced dead in Batavia by Clermont County Coroner Dr F S Skeen A fireman stopped the train A Foley brother an N W engineer also was struck and died while operating a locomotive near Lawshe 38 miles west of Portsmouth on Sept 7 1923.

Annual District Meeting Slated Expert To Speak

The Cler mont Soil Conservation District will hold its annual meeting on Thursday Dec 13 at 8 p.m. in the Williamsburg Community building. Floyd Heft executive secretary of the Ohio Soil Conservation Committee and an extension specialist will speak on The Progress of Conservation in Ohio. Inheritance Tax Collections Break Ohio Records

Clermont County collected 186,130.62 in inheritance taxes this year, per State Auditor James A. Rhodes. Ohio-wide inheritance taxes totaled 15,931,115, surpassing the 1954 record of 12,579,967.

Goshen Receives Top Share in Record School Funds

State Auditor James A. Rhodes announced a four quarter distribution of more than 44 million dollars to Ohio school districts, the largest quarterly allocation in history. Amelia Batavia Bethel Clermont-Northeastern Goshen and others receive varied amounts. checks go out this week via Roy Thompson. Total statewide figures include 31.7 million to districts, 803 thousand to county boards, 6.3 million to retirement systems, 1.2 million to school employees, and 3.96 million for bus depreciation. Local districts under county systems get 15.5 million, city districts 13.7 million, and exempted villages 2.5 million.

Burglaries Reported Near New Richmond and Glen Este

Two burglaries were reported to Sheriff Clyde Dericks last weekend. The Frontier near New Richmond was entered through a back door with four cases of whisky cigarettes and 25 dollars in nickels taken. Bud Spicer discovered the theft. Charles McGuire, owner of Glen Este Garage, reported silver stolen from a Saturday night break in.

Yale Lighting Contest offers $100 in prizes

Batavia Garden Club announces a holiday home lighting contest with a total prize pool of 100 dollars. Three $10 awards will go to the best decorated homes, doors, and windows, plus ten $2 honorable mention prizes. Judging is set for December 20 from 7 to 9 pm.
