County Board Approves Bonds To Repair Bridges
The Board of County Commissioners and officials met to issue $10,000 in 500 denomination bonds for 20 years beginning 1915 to repair and rebuild crumbling bridges across the county. The panel also arranged $14,000 in notes and a bond sale to pay long standing salaries and infirmary costs, with six percent interest on notes and 4.3 percent on bonds. Deputies’ salaries were fixed, with the top paid to the auditor’s deputy at 840 annually and other deputies set at 720 620 and 600 respectively.

Ninetieth Birthday of Pioneer Editor Samuel Burwell
Samuel Burwell of Manchester, a pioneer editor in the state, recently celebrated his ninetieth birthday. Born November 20, 1822 in Tiffin township, he owned and edited the West Union Scion for fifty years. He and seven children did all the office type setting and job work. The late John A. Cockerill learned to set type in Burwell's office. Two Burwell family members later worked for the Times-Star. The Scion is now defunct.

Guardian Appointed for Minor Mary Little in 1777 Orphan Court
At Carlisle on November 18 1777 the Orphan Court appointed William Little as guardian over the person and estate of Mary Little a minor daughter of John Little deceased aged over 14. The order was signed by John Creigh Clerk with the court seal dated November 19 1777.

Adams county farmer Sheridan Grooms sold a two-year old Silver Bronze gobbler weighing 85 pounds to L L Kidgington and Sons for $5.25 at 15 cents per pound. The bird could have weighed 50 pounds more if fattened, and last spring his goblership tipped the beam at 36 cents per pound.

Aunt Nancy Mount 98 Dies Prominent Local Matriarch
Nancy Duckwall Mount died last Tuesday night at her daughter Mrs Varley’s home near Williamsburg aged 98. She had 18 children and survived eight. A lifelong M E church member she witnessed major telegraph telephone and rail advances and was remembered for hospitality and generosity. Her life was celebrated in Batavia cemetery with a sketch read by E C Ely.

Peter Lovinguth, 23, a Northern and Western Railroad fireman of Otway Colorado, was killed when his head struck a bridge over Clear Creek near Clair and he was hurled into the Little Miami River. Engineers warned of the danger as the crew recovered his body and sent it to Evanston morgue.

Bell Telephone announces a comprehensive plan for pensions sick benefits and life insurance effective January 1 a 10 million dollar fund covers 175000 employees and allied interests. Eligible men at 60 with 20 years or at 65 with 25 years may retire with pensions while women retire five years earlier. Disability and sickness benefits include full pay for thirteen weeks and half pay up to six years with coverage for injuries outside regular duty.
