Tax refund surprise for Clermont County Leslies on erroneous bill

Clermont County Auditor Earl Metzger surprised Miss Hattia Tactia and her brothers Homer and Alonzo by delivering a tax refund check. An error placed their property on the tax duplicate under the Leslie name causing overpayment for years. Real estate appraiser Karl Zoller accompanied Metzger to explain the correction and the new lower valuation.

Second Meeting Set On Proposed Two Year College

Clermont County officials will discuss a proposed community college at 1 30 p m with Brown Adams and Highland County school leaders. Richard Slusher Brown County Superintendent spoke last week on the tri county plan and local educators note a vocational school need as they prepare for a tax levy to raise 600 000 local funds.

Clermonts Share of Auto License Fees is $143 572 50

State Auditor Roger Cloud announced the second advance distribution of 1965 auto license funds totaling 21 761 311 to counties and municipalities, with Clermont receiving 143 572 50 and the 81 per cent county share at 11 892 809 50 and city share at 8 603 309 00. The total 1965 license money paid to subdivisions reached 78 317 876.

County approves freeway alignment and sewer hearing dates

County commissioners pass a resolution concurring with the Circl Free way alignment from the Hamilton Clermont county line to near Milford. A public hearing was held August 11 and the project was journalized by the Ohio Department of Highways on September 15. Final inspection of Union Township’s sewer system plants set for December 7 at 9 30 a m with a U S Health official present. Cincinnati Gas and Electric wins approval to lay 45 feet of natural gas mains along Amelia Olive Branch Road to serve Woodruff Lane.

Turkey winners named in Shop With Courier Advertisers contest

Mrs. William Ramsey of Church Street Amelia and Mrs. Herschel Taylor of Footer Road Batavia won turkeys for Thanksgiving. Ramsey listed 27 Courier advertisers. Taylor named 24. The Ramseys are long time residents, with Mr. Ramsey at Cincinnati Milling Machine Co. The Taylors have seven children and 12 grandchildren. Mr. Taylor works for Pennsylvania Railroad but has been ill for three months.

Head of Prominent Farm Family Dies

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Susan Urban, 82, who died Saturday at her home on Williamsburg Batavia Pike. Burial followed in Batavia cemetery. She was the head of a prominent farm family and is survived by daughter Margaret, sons Joseph J. and Peter, a sister in Cincinnati, and four grandchildren. Joseph J. Urban is vice president of the Batavia board of education and former Clermont County Planning Commission member. Peter Urban is a former professional boxer.

Real Estate Tax Tops $7 Million in Clermont County

Clermont County collected real estate taxes totaling 7,006,386 this year and expects to finish in sound financial condition. Last year’s collections were 6,623,678, up 1 million from two years prior and 2.1 million from three years prior. Delinquencies stand at 718,191, up over 100,000 from a year ago, as taxpayers work to clear old bills while current taxes slip. Delinquencies over a year old fell 382,398 in 1965, with 347,872 cleared the prior year, after a 660,862 figure in the year before. Peak annual collection reached 719,940 in 1963.

Union Township Sets $150 Sewer Tap-In Policy

Union Township announces a $3.4 million sewer system with a tap in fee of $150 starting January 1 1967. Homeowners must pay at least 12 feet of lateral from the main trunk line to the property line plus the cost of running the lateral, with connections before 1967 free except for lateral costs. A contractor will be bid for the work and a basic per foot rate set, with project oversight by county officials and engineers.

Food Stamp Program Expands Roles for Batavia Merchants

At a meeting, 80 merchants urged Welfare and Agriculture officials to participate in the Food Stamp Program. Eight to ten families daily are being registered at 128 Main Street Batavia to determine stamp eligibility, joining over 1000 already on public assistance. Welfare offices moved Monday to the Health and Welfare Service Center on Ohio 222 north of Batavia. The program allows low income families to buy stamps plus additional stamps to upgrade diets.

More Streets Ready For Sewer Tieing

Clermont County commissioners heard Barbeau Construction Management report that four streets and three trunk lines can tie into the 3.4 million Union Township sewer system. Connections may be made on Richoltz Road Auxier Drive Ross Lane and Terrace View Drive. One trunk line feeding Shayler Run treatment plant is ready.
