Alfred Lefebers prepared plans for pumping station electrification, softening plant expansion, new reservoir, and mains extension.
On Wednesday December 1 the Memorial Bookmobile from the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County will be shown at Batavia from 7 p m until after the Clermont County Parents and Teachers Association meeting at the public school auditorium. The new unit carries 2 500 books and makes a monthly stop at 47 villages and six Hamilton County schools. It costs 7 500 and is a G M C 2 1 2 ton truck 27 feet long. Roy Battles WLW farm program director will speak.
Mrs Emily Pratt donated a stray calf to the General Protestant Home in Cincinnati after a long dispute over ownership that included a lower court ruling for her opponent and an upheld decision on appeal. The calf, judged by courts to belong to Pratt, was photographed at the handover with Everett Townsley and other guests present.
Winners of the Presidential Essay Contest sponsored by The Courier and The Standard Oil Company of Ohio pose with medals and awards at The Courier office. Betty Jeffries wins senior division first place and $10. Frank Bowers junior division first with $5. Sarah List wins junior division second. Norma Jean Proud and Kitty Don Crone place in senior and junior divisions. Presidents covered include Lincoln Roosevelt Hoover and Truman. Donald Hughes Swain is noted as second in the senior division but absent. Each contestant receives a one year Courier subscription.
The body of Pvt. 1st Class James O. Butts, killed in Germany on April 20, 1945, is en route from the European theater. He was 18 and served with General Patton's spearhead. Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Butts of Williamsville Glen Este Road will be notified of the funeral when the body arrives in Clermont County.
A Batavia Woman's Club tea last Thursday at Batavia Methodist Church celebrated the group's fiftieth anniversary. Federated Clubs of Clermont County members attended along with Batavia friends. Mrs James Nelson welcomed guests as Miss Bess Walker played the organ. planners included Mrs Hoyt Alrey and Mrs Forrest Ely. The club’s first president was Mrs P F Jamieson, recalling its origins as a culture group with a long ago library in Glancy's store back room.
The Aeolian Choir of Wilmington College will sing at Batavia High School Auditorium at 8 p m on November 28. Sponsored by Batavia Rotary Club the group is regarded as a leading small college choir in the Midwest under director Prof Rolla Foley.
The Batavia Garden Club will convene at 2 30 Monday afternoon November 29 at the home of Mrs Cora Bishop.
Maurice Boothby 18 of Pt Isabel is bound over to the Clermont County grand jury on charges of stealing a purse with 300 dollars from Mrs James L Collins of Pt Isabel and a car belonging to Elmer Pierce of Felicity. Boothby was arrested in Cincinnati by Deputy Marvin Bissantz and appeared before Mayor A OC Munden of Bata via for a hearing.
The Clermont County Red Cross chapter met at Batavia schoolhouse with a musical program by Miss Joan Ely and Dick Speidel. Elected officers: George Ankermiller chairman, William B. Frye vice chairman, Mrs. Jean Laffleur secretary, Mrs. Doris South treasurer. Ananeas Patton died at 69. services set for 2 p.m. Nov. 23 at Moore's Funeral Home Batavia, burial in Batavia.
County officials announce 1948 tax rates with most districts steady from 1947. Owensville village rate rises due to a 1947 bond, Milford and its school district increase. Love rland remains affected by Hamilton County operating levy. A $4,199,500 bond issued in 1947 is noted.
A car driven by Donald Irwin of Goshen with brothers Elbert and Dale Berger ran off State Route 28 about five miles east of Milford. The vehicle tore 50 feet of guard rail and fell 25 feet down a bank. All three youths were thrown from the car but escaped serious injuries.
Pastor A. Melvin Hyers of Lincoln Park Baptist Church Cincinnati will evangelize at Lindale Baptist Church for eight days starting Sunday December 5. He is noted for playing gospel music on a common hand saw.
