Union Baptist notes Sunday schedule and events

U B Church in Batavia lists Sunday School at 10:00 worship at 11:00 and evening service at 8:15 with a special Christian Endeavor service planned for next Sunday. Maritime Service Drive Nears Its Goal

Headquarters of the Fifth Regional District United States Maritime Service in Cleveland Ohio says its drive begun Oct 1 is within 500 of a 2500 enlistment goal by Thanksgiving Nov 26. Recruits from Ohio Michigan and Kentucky train for Liberty Ship crews in the Victory Fleet with pay of 50 dollars a month during a three month training period and potential officer training after fourteen months at sea. A recruiting office is in Cincinnati at the Traction Building.

Puckett Enlists in Navy Training at Chicago Station

Clinton W. Puckett 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Puckett Route 2 Williamsburg C, reported to the U S Naval Training Station in Chicago for recruit training to prepare for service with Uncle Sam. After completion he will receive a nine day leave then proceed to a naval service school or active duty at sea or shore duty.

Ohio Employment Service reports record October placements

Ohio's 83 offices filled 47 918 jobs in October and referred 5 358 people to war production training. Applications for work reached 79 963, up 3.2 percent from September, while ten month totals show a 48.4 percent year over year rise. Rural declines offset gains in eight major centers including Akron Canton Cincinnati Cleveland Columbus Toledo Dayton and Youngstown with October up 6.5 percent over September.

147 Selectees To Take Final Exams Dec 5

Draft boards announce 147 men notified for induction in December, up about 50 percent from last month. Board No 1 will call 77 for final physicals, listing selectees from Goshen to Williamsburg including Charles J. Wolbers and many others. Board No 2 to furnish 70, with mostly single men, names include Charles H. Knauer and Russell H. Thompson among others.
