A fire damaged the Ernsberger Grocery on Rt. 74 near Burg Hill with two incidents before noon. The blaze caused substantial rear damage but was controlled. a chimney fault is suspected. OPA defers nationwide gas rationing to December 1. temporary gas rations may be available after that date. Farmers urged to apply immediately for war necessity certificates with in-office assistance available at the county committee offices in Batavia Ohio.
Gag rationing forces the Junior Class to move the performance of Toby Doodle Dandy to Saturday November 21, at Williamsburg High School.
Supplemental gasoline registration begins November 21 and runs through November 28 from 7 p.m. to 7 p.m. Applications cover B and ts transport trucks and buses. Dealer registration closes December 1 and 2 at the Rationing Board office in Batavia with rationing taking effect at 12:01 a.m. December 1 1942. Coupons required to obtain a line thereafter.
Frances R. Whitney of the U S Civil Service Commission will interview at Batavia Courthouse Conference Room on Friday Nov 20 from 1 to 3 pm to recruit Jr Clerks Jr Clerk-Typists and Jr Calculating Machine Operators for Army Air Forces work at Wright Field Dayton Ohio. Applicants must be 18 as high school graduates 17 if graduate. Positions include general mechanic helper laborer at 1320 per year and packer at 1500 per year with Saturday pay premium. appointments offered at interview for qualified locals. war-industry workers already employed are ineligible.
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bungart formerly of Mt. Carmel now reside in Cincinnati will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on November 22. They have two children, a daughter Mrs. John Andres of Glen Rose Ohio and a son Anthony Bungart of Chicago. Their family includes three granddaughters Betty Evelyn and Dorothy Andres and one grandson Jack Andres serving in the Pacific. A dinner for them was held November 8 at the Andres residence and a reception followed at the Mt Carmen Social Hall for relatives and many friends.
Ohio state hunters are urged by Hal G. Sours director of the Ohio Department of Highways to avoid using road signs as shotgun targets. He cites patriotic reasons, material shortages for replacements, warning to motorists, and the 35 mile Victory signs aiding the war effort. He says some hunters act thoughtlessly, not malice, and asks cooperation with Gov Bricker's Victory effort.
The Batavia Methodist Church women announce an annual Turkey Dinner to be held on Thursday December 10. Proceeds support church missions and local programs.
The Rationing Board outlines tire inspection regulations. No inspection is required now. Car operators must inspect between December 1, 1942 and January 31, 1943. Visual inspection costs limited. If tires can be repaired they may require removal and replacement. Fees set per tire type and removal charges. Numbers may be read from tires. report violations to the Rationing Board.
The Office of Price Administration reminds homeowners to apply for a fuel oil ration even if they have enough on hand. Excess oil cannot be consumed after November 23 unless covered by ration coupons or inventory statements. Transfers to other users are forbidden. excess should be returned to a dealer and reported to the local rationing board.
The North Union Two Civilian Defense Council authorizes purchase of a quantity of large fire extinguishers for strategic placement throughout the council territory for emergency use.
The American Red Cross Blood Donor Service mobile unit will tour Clermont county during the week of November 23. It will be in New Richmond on Tuesday 24, Batavia on Wednesday 25, and Bethel on Friday and Saturday 27 and 28. About 125 donors are expected daily for the Blood Bank to aid armed forces overseas.
Clermont County Granger News lists Batavia Grange officers led by Master John Fetzer and Overseer William Brothers, plus a full slate for Clermont Grange No. 2377. Degree work is set for November 19, with honorary master and steward named for 1943 due to military service. Ruth Williams to host a Thanksgiving program on November 24.
The Ohio State Council of Defense orders block and neighborhood leaders to conduct a house to house campaign from November 30 to December 5 explaining the Share the Meat program. The aim is voluntary meat limits to 2.5 pounds per week per adult and adolescent to support armed forces, with pamphlets and charts supplied for housewives.
A Civilian Defense Council question for Clough and East Clough residents is settled. The panel of John Friend Manly Hill and Zone 2 coordinator Chatfield ruled that the territory stays in North Union Two district, including houses on Clough East Clough and roads from Hamilton county line to Shaler Road.
Batavia Route 4 resident Herbert Roehm was fined 225 dollars and 49.50 costs after pleading guilty to state game law violations. Authorities found five raccoon pelts and eight opossum pelts hidden in a tobacco barn. Roehm was jailed for failure to pay.
