Batavia School to Dedicate New Building Friday Night

Batavia prepares for the formal dedication of its new high school building with an 8 p.m. program featuring a German Choral, band, invocations, flag presentations, and speeches by Judge Hugh Nichols and Frank Hoggatt. Guides will lead tours after the ceremony and a social with Mickey Friend’s Orchestra starts at 10 p.m.

Cincinnati Man Takes Own Life at Home

John Adams, 52, Cincinnati Water Works employee, resided with his mother on Nine Mile Road near Tabasco. He shot himself in the heart with an 82 caliber revolver last Wednesday morning. Coroner Sam White returned a death by own action verdict after his body was found by his son Harold Adams, 22, in a field behind the house. Family offered no reason for the tragedy. Adams had been employed for years and was in good health.

Clermont county Democrats plan December dinner celebration

Under Senator Harold D. Nichols Batavia chairs a Clermont county Democratic event to honor Frank White and Earl Ertel. Father involvement urged at Mt. Carmel for youth growth

John Friend, Clermont County Boy Scout Commissioner, urged fathers to spend at least one hour daily with children and build a lasting father child bond during a parents night at Mt. Ten High Teams Play Wednesday in Clermont League

Clermont County basketball action opens with all ten high teams set to play five league tilts on Wednesday. Results from last weekend show Amelia and Milford leading girls and boys division, while Batavia opens its new gym in a winless night. Red Cross Roll Call progress reports 100 percent in Mt. Carmel School and strong totals from Union Township and several other schools.

Brotherhood To Meet Dec 3 At Milford Church

The Clermont County Brotherhood holds its monthly meeting on Thursday December 3 at 8 o clock in Milford M E Church. Rev William Reeves will speak and the Felicity quartet provides music. A social hour and refreshments follow. Clermont County ranks second in attendance at the District Rally in October in Blanchester, behind Clinton County. More than 100 members from this district attended.

E L Carter president of the Clermont County Farm Bureau announces four district committees. Legislative Committee includes Joe Nobis, Ed Saxton, Clarence Hutchinson, Byron Ross. Fire destroys five room stucco house in Withameaville area

A two story home owned by Andrew Sparke on Fulton Road near Withameaville burned last Thursday at 9 am. The fire caused by an overheated furnace destroyed the five room dwelling occupied by Frank Pointer and family. Total loss estimated at 4000 dollars with partial insurance in place.

Prince of Peace contest results at Presbyterian church

The Prince of Peace contest at the Presbyterian church Sunday night featured Betty Wilson, Roger Budd, Mary Aichholz, Chas Hauck, Bruce Paschal, Harold Nichols, Miss Emma Wilko, and E. A. Evans as judges. The participants performed well. Charles Hauck took first place and Betty Wilson placed second.

Tax examiner to assist Batavia vendors next week

County Building in Batavia hosts J C Hart the local tax examiner to aid vendors required to file a sales tax return for the period July 1 to November 11 1986. License cancellations can also be applied for during the visit.

Williamsburg hosts its first annual community festival at the school house drawing about 600 people. Treasurer Chas Murphy reports $158 proceeds split among school, Latin and Commercial funds and the FFA. Billy Jordan earned eight blue ribbons. egg grading by Mr. Fleming of the Cooperative Pure Milk Association drew crowd interest.

Jamieson Building to Make Way for Gas Station in Batavia

Old Jamieson Building on Main and Third will be demolished starting in December for a gas station. Four tenants relocate: Robert Foster Grocery moves across street, Pullen Dry Cleaning shifts behind the current structure, Mrs. Ed Pride opens in the Sun Building, Dennis Grimes moves his barber shop to the Sun Building basement. Three Clermont County special elections set for December 15 in Batavia Consolidated Bethel Tate and Jackson districts with a three mill operating levy proposed in each.

Manslaughter Trial Begins for Orville Shaver

Orville Shaver of near Pt Pleasant goes on trial in Clermont County Common Pleas on a manslaughter charge tied to the June death of Cliff Jones of Laurel. Attorney Forrest E. Ely defends him as Prosecutor Frank A. Roberts leads the state's case. The dispute arose from a June fight in which Jones allegedly sustained injuries causing his death ten days later at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati.

Scarlet Fever Warning From Health Department

The health department warns of scarlet fever a highly contagious illness with widespread risk in Ohio. In Hamilton County 19 cases were reported last half of last month and Clermont County added two cases on Saturday urging guardians to watch for fever headache vomiting sore throat and rash and to keep sick children home and seek early diagnosis and isolation.

The Batavia Garden Club sponsored event last Thursday night at the Armory, netting a neat sum for the club. Exhibits were attractive and unusual featuring many old and new articles on display.
