Milford Edges Amelia In Tight County Battle

Milford narrowly defeated Amelia 22 to 19 in a hard fought boys game, with Milford's win boosting their title chances alongside Amelia in Clermont County. Girls results show Milford beating Amelia 86 to 26, Felicity topping Batavia 29 10, and Batavia girls holding Felicity to limited scoring. Amelia and Milford split league and non league engagements with upcoming matches at Goshen and Loveland.

Hayden Called To Columbus To Discuss Highway Plan

State Representative John Hayden of Felicity was summoned to Columbus by State Highway Director John J. Jaster Jr for an important highway advisory council meeting. The council aims to draft a broad improvement program to be presented to the General Assembly when it convenes in January. Hayden serves on the council's finance committee.

Former Batavian Teasdale Dies in Cincinnati at 82

Simeon G. Teasdale aged 82 longtime Batavia businessman and eldest Batavia Masonic Lodge member died Friday at his Cincinnati home. Funeral services are Monday with burial in Batavia under Masonic rites. He left a daughter Anna with whom he lived and had served two terms as deputy sheriff under his brother Lemuel Teasdale.

Parent Education Study Group Set At School House

The third meeting of the parent education study group will explore Mr. Carmel P. T. A. Management of Children in the Homes at the school house Thursday at 8 30. Open to all parents and teachers with Mrs. Virgil McGraw in charge. A day of cards bazaar and dinner is planned Saturday Dec 12 with General Chairman Mrs W McGraw and multiple volunteers organizing dinner bazaar and card party. Proceeds go to install drinking fountains in the school building.

Shaver Acquitted in Jones Death

Orville Shaver of near Pt Pleasant was found not guilty of manslaughter in the June death of Clifford Jones of Laurel after a about a one hour jury deliberation in Common Pleas court. Jones died ten days after a fight at Christ Hospital Cincinnati. Forrest E. Ely defended Shaver while Frank A. Roberts prosecuted.

Farm Bureau urges sales and income tax to fund equitable tax load

Perry L. Green leader of the Ohio Farm Bureau called for a nationwide campaign for 1987 to secure a selective sales tax and an income tax to ensure an equitable tax load. He warned against farm property tax increases and urged long term mortgage relief and a commodity based currency to stabilize values. Green emphasized organized action and federation with state and national groups to press for favorable legislation. He noted high levels of organization in capital and labor compared with farmers and urged unity.

Ohio State Day Observed in Clermont County

Ohio State Day will be observed in Clermont County on Friday December 4 with a dinner at Batavia. James M. Patchell Senator Nichols and Francis H. Deter oversee plans for the annual event with a dinner at Kramer s Batavia at 8 p.m. followed by a program at the Batavia High School auditorium featuring radio broadcasts from Ohio State University in Columbus. All alumni and their spouses are urged to attend along with current students and parents.

The Batavia P T A will meet in the Batavia High School auditorium on Wednesday December 9. The event moved from December 10 due to conflicts and will feature a business session, a talk by Eli H. Speidel, a teachers reception, an operetta Santa Claus by 60 first to fourth graders, and carol singing by 60 sixth to eighth graders. All parents are urged to attend.

Six People Injured in Auto Collision Near Moscow

An accident on Route 68 near Moscow Saturday night left six people injured. Victims include Vack Hamm of Cincinnati with multiple injuries and Myrtle Hamm, Hiram Staggs of Covington, John H. Kueschel of Cincinnati, Chas. Hornig of Cincinnati, and Richard Hugo of Cincinnati. Both cars were demolished. Marshall Frank Ferry and aides transported the injured to Meade’s Hospital in New Richmond.

Hit-Skip Driver Injures Elderly Man in Wilhameville

John Whippy aged 80 residing with Earl Thompson of Wilhameville was struck by a hit and run driver Saturday at 9 pm in front of his home. He sustained injuries and was taken to Bethesda Hospital. physician Dr J W Mott of Amelia treated him. Names and license number not obtained. Sheriff Auxier notified.

Three Special Elections in Clermont County December 15

Clermont county holds three special elections December 15 to approve school tax levies. Bethel, Jackson, and Batavia each vote on 2 year mills for school purposes with 2 mill or 3 mill levies. Two judges and two clerks per precinct administer. pay set at five dollars daily with a $1 daily for presiding judge and mileage. Ballot locations include Batavia West, Batavia East, Bethel West and East, Marathon, and Monterey precincts with named officers listed.

Sunday fire damages a frame house owned by Milton Singleton on Broadway. Batavia fire company responded quickly and contained the blaze, keeping the fire duration short.

Mt Carmel Couple In Sudden Deaths

Double funeral services were held for Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Williams of Mt Carmel. Mrs Dora Webb Williams died at 54 on Thursday from a stroke and Mr Williams, 68, a retired Walnut Hills businessman, died Saturday of a heart attack. He retired five years ago from the transfer business at Peebles Corner and was found dead at his Mt Carmel home. Surviving relatives include daughter Alma Williams of Cincinnati, son Earl Williams of Norwood, sister Mrs Charles M Leslie of Cincinnati, and brothers Richard of Canton and M C Williams of Cincinnati.

Campaign Against Diphtheria Opens in Clermont County

The health commissioner and nurse lead a diphtheria inoculation drive for school children in Clermont County. Consent has been favorable. 118 children in New Richmond, WPA Nursery, New Richmond Public School, and St Peters School have been inoculated. The team plans visits to Branch Hill, Owensville, and Milford with urging mothers to bring preschool children and to phone the superintendent.
