A large fire swept Clermontville near New Richmond on Sunday night, consuming L. P. Fridman general store, the adjacent Ayers home, Fridman warehouse, and Fred Fridman’s insured warehouse. Losses totaled about 9,700 with limited insurance and no fire apparatus to halt the blaze. The town, sparsely populated, has few surviving structures including Parker's academy.

A cistern on a hill top, used to store condemned gasoline barrels, exploded after a Russian boy lit a match. The blast demolished the cistern and scattered bricks, dirt, and debris, leaving no survivors but a massive hole where the storage once stood.
An advanced, burglar and fire proof time locked safe is being installed in the auditor’s office to protect papers stamps and commissioner's reports. The article recalls earlier safes used by Ex-treasurer Robinson and county officials dating back to 1855 1857 with keys carried by county officers.
The second C C T I session for the year met in New Richmond at opera hall on November 21 1903 chaired by Supt J E Collins. Morning topics included The Teacher's Relation to His Board and Supplementary Geography Work with references to maps readers and methods. The afternoon featured readings and talks by Prof W W Boyd and Hon C L Swain on teacher personality and the Partisans and Their Influence.
Lycurgus Holmes died at home near Feesburg Brown county on Tuesday morning November 21 1903 aged 77. He leaves a widow and daughter Ella a noted schoolteacher and was a prominent local figure in church and social circles. Funeral services will be held at 9 am Friday at his residence with burial at Clover cemetery.
William V. Bangs of Mulberry incited a neighbor James Hatfield and was arrested after a hearing prompted by the Cincinnati Humane Society. Mary Hatfield, a 20 year old who is described as partially daffy, testified that Bangs prompted the charges and cleared Hatfield. Bangs, 65, was jailed after failing to post 9500 bond.

In a special session the Clermont County Board of Commissioners approved numerous bills for sheriff and jail needs and authorized masonry, culvert work, bridge repairs, and lumber purchases. Contracts were awarded for abutment labor in Wayne township, and a fund transfer of 4918.59 was approved from building to county funds. The board also discussed attorney Gideon C. Wilson’s proposed $2310 fee for eleven Davis cases and voted to hire him under specified terms.
Prominent Georgia figure Hon. W. B. Goodwin dies after years of debility. Civil War spy for Sherman's forces, later Georgia State Senator, U.S. marshal, and U.S. Circuit Court Commissioner. Funeral held at his home with Masonic honors. Survived by widow and several children. A devout Methodist noted for charity.

Rev Billman announced from the pulpit that union Thanksgiving services will be held at the Presbyterian church with Rev Spybey assisting. The change reverses the usual rotation between churches as Spybey being new to the field agreed to deliver the sermon. Special music was prepared and Commander Black G A R posts nationwide may attend, with Batavia post answering the call.
Stonelick township farmers prepare for one of the county’s largest institutes to be held Wednesday and Thursday December 16 and 17. State lecturers plus abundant local talent will provide instruction and entertainment, with KE Patchell president and J O Rapp secretary guiding the event.
Louis Buerkle sold his established fresh meat and ice business to the Sapp Bros and turned possession to the new firm last Monday. The new operators, aided by Sebastian Buerkle, are well regarded for integrity and service. Mr. Buerkle retires with good wishes and may pursue similar work in a neighboring county.
On Sunday morning Rev Spybey preaches "A Sermon About You" at 10 o clock. Evening service at 7 features "The Christ of the Gospels." Epworth League prayer meeting led by Mrs Mattie Dial at 6 o clock with topic "The Use of Prayer."
The Post Office Department expands rural routes duties to collect household census data. Carriers will carry blank slips listing every member. married women are to be designated by their own given names, improving accuracy of mail delivery on each route.
In Clermont County Common Pleas Court Judge Newby hears Prosecuting Attorney Davidson's motion to set aside compromise judgments and reopen cases against Jno W Davis and others. The conflict centers on $1,640.40 from three $4,000+ fee cases, previously closed in 1902, with Auditor Davis and Auditor Williams involved and county tax payers bearing costs. The outcome may determine attorney fees and who pays them as the county fights over a long standing Democratic graft dispute.
Mrs. Benson of Kellar used Chamberlain Pain Balm on her child burned by a hot stove. The pain eased within half an hour and the child slept, healing within two weeks. The balm is an antiseptic liniment sold by all druggists.
Walter Thomas, a clerk at the Thomas general store in Amelia, was injured in a cellar mishap as he bent to fetch goods. He tripped over crocks in darkness causing shin abrasions that worsened to blood poisoning. A physician treated him and he is reported improving after days of anxious concern.
Clyde B. Fagin and Blanche Walker of Tobasco were married at the bride’s parents home, Mr and Mrs Meredith Walker, on Wednesday November 11 at 8 p m. The ceremony was intimate with close friends. The bride, a popular Clermont young lady, and the groom, a member of Fagin Bros, Tabasco, will start housekeeping in their hometown.
John T. Norris, once famed as a Buckeye detective, was convicted in Springfield last week on eight counts of blackmail. He faces one to five years in the penitentiary. T. D. Hartman of Monterey, oldest Clermont county bar member, attended town business. admitted in 1846 with contemporaries George L. Swing deceased and R. M. Griffith of Bethel. Also admitted that year were W. H. McHugh and E. F. W. Ellis of Felicity, Moses D. Gatch and James Evans of Batavia. Hartman has practiced 57 years straight.
Mrs Anna Willis 74 of Kokomo writes a public letter endorsing Dodd's Kidney Pills. She says twenty years of kidney trouble affected her heart and back and kept her from work, but after using several boxes she recovered fully and can perform farm chores again. Her address is R No 6 Kokomo.
