Money Returned by Postmaster Hoffman Faces Prosecution

John T. Hoffman, postmaster in Wileon, Adams county, returned after a week’s disappearance to find a $116 discrepancy in money order accounts. Deputy Marshal Sanderson served a warrant as Hoffman pleaded guilty to embezzlement before US Commissioner Hall and was bound over on $1000 bail. Hoffman said he left to borrow funds to cover the shortage and made restitution, but authorities will press the case.

Indiana Drives Third in Western States Pay to Teachers

The Brown County News reports western states ranking on teacher wages with Wisconsin first and Illinois second. Michigan trails Indiana while Iowa ranks ninth and Ohio tenth paying male teachers $85 and female $29 monthly. Ohio shows the lowest northern state wages and only Maine New Hampshire Vermont pay women less. Iowa, among the Mississippi states, pays near Louisiana in low wages yet has notably fine school buildings.

Two Motormen Hurt In Interurban Head-On Crash

An Interurban collision on Sunday on the Fruit Hill pike in suburban Ohio injured both motormen. James Boyd of California oroperated eastbound car 61 while E W Knight of Cox Landing led westbound car 65. Knight's legs were broken and Boyd suffered a fractured left thigh with severe facial injuries. Conductor Tom Baker resigned after the crash, his second head-on on the same line.

Boston Farmers' Institute Planned for December 16 17

The Boston farmers institute will convene Wednesday and Thursday December 16 and 17 with 9 20 a m start and sessions lasting past 7 30 p m. Local man wins $500 fourth prize in county contest

Amon Ely of Monterey in Clermont county captured the $500 fourth prize in the Commercial-Tribune guessing contest. He also shared the prior $5,000 first prize among three people. Ely was successful last year and shared a $666.66 share then. Another Clermont resident, UO D Lytle of Afton, won $100 in the seventh award.

Water Works Sue Interurban Over Turnpike Repairs

In Cincinnati common pleas court the Water Works Commissioners sue the Interurban Railway and Terminal Co for 89 dollars plus costs claiming the company refused to repair the New Richmond turnpike portion through California property after earlier permission. The city repaired it at 959 dollars. judgment sought.

Inroads of Trolley to Lebanon Trim Cincinnati Line Service

The C L and N Railroad reduced one daily Cincinnati Lebanon round trip due to rising trolley traffic on the Lebanon line. Since last August one round trip was eliminated as travel shifted to the Rapid Railway Scrugham trolley. Officials say no final decision has been made on removing a second train.
