Clermont County engineer Carl Rush announced the Batavia Pierce Union township water system will go into use January 15. As of November 1 only about 700 signed for water had meter to house connections installed. Water bills begin when water is available and permit holders failing to connect owe minimum bills.
Clermont County farms fell from 3013 in 1949 to 2487 in 1954 while average farm size rose from 78.5 to 85.9 acres. Land in farms dropped about 5,035 acres to 231,513, with about 23,000 acres converted to subdivisions and other residential plots. Dairy, poultry, and tobacco farm counts dropped. oats and wheat yields rose. apples and fruits declined. Field trip notes at New Richmond School describe a visit to Artistic Furniture Co. in Cincinnati.
An open meeting will be held at the Williamsburg Grange Hall on Saturday November 26. A Thanksgiving dinner is served at 7 p m before a program at 8 p m featuring color slides and a Hawaii talk by Rev Norman Moore. Attendees should bring their own table service and a covered dish.
Amelia Cub Scouts Pack 443 holds its regular monthly meeting Monday evening November 28 in the school cafeteria. The theme is America Beautiful and dens will present skits.
Dr. Thomas Longworth of Fencity received a gold pin and certificate for fifty years in medical practice at the Clermont County Medical Society annual meeting in Felicity. Officers elected: A. Gordon Schulze Amelia president, Charles Simmons Bethel vice president, John Crone Milford secretary treasurer, Carl Minning Batavia delegate. A dance with Ted Beckman Orchestra at Archie Lee Boyce American Legion Post 406 Bethel, November 26.
Clyde Boner asked the Clermont County Board of Commissioners for a 90 day leave citing ill health. The vote carried two to one with Anstaett and Croswell voting yes while Clark objected to the process. Boner plans to stay on his farm near Williamsburg Owensville and may not return to the county home post after the leave.
State Auditor James A. Rhodes reports total poor relief subsidies to Ohio counties and cities at 16 076 043 60 for the year with November checks of 1 283 082 13. Clermont County receives 4 133 64. Six counties with about 50 percent of the population will get nearly 80 percent of November aid: Cuyahoga, Hamilton, Franklin, Summit, Montgomery and Lucas.
Fifty two farmers and nine homemakers enrolled in Clermont County Efficiency in farming will receive recognition at the D-X Ranch on November 29. A dinner and program include Buddy Ross of WLW TV and an “As I See It” discussion by a farmer, homemaker, and business rep. Certificates will be awarded.
A recount of votes in 13 precincts for the Williamsville Tabasco Amelia Glen Este merger will start at 9 a m Friday November 25. The Clinton County Board of Elections confirmed the plan and Rosenhoffer said the group filed the recount application. </s>
Palomino show horse Pot O Gold's Lord High Land owned by Mr and Mrs Walter S Schott of Schott Stables Loveland claimed the parade horse championship trophy and ribbon from the Tri State Horse Show Association based on points from past tri state shows. Trainer Earl Curtis, formerly of Glen Este, guides Schott Stables air.
Batavia's temporary postmaster Harry Hollerbach threatened to quit citing lack of cooperation from superiors but will remain in position through Christmas. He said forces beyond his control hindered efforts to improve service and supervision, and he aims to avoid mail disruption while continuing county growth and extra duties.
Gatchett Chevrolet announces the grand opening of its Used Car Headquarters at 2249 Beechmont Avenue Mt Washington with showrooms at 6615 Beechmont Avenue. Festivities on November 25 and 26 include prizes refreshments and tailors made suits with certain car purchases.
