Fugitive James Webster Ends Manhunt in Shootout

James Webster aged 365, an alleged bootlegger wanted for the Rushville sheriff murder, was cornered by Cincinnati police at Mt. Orabd. He fired on Captain Lin Black who gas-fired the door. Webster shot himself, dying as officers closed in. Coroner rules death by self-inflicted gunshot. Brown and Clermont counties stirred. Undertakers E T Thompson & Son of Mt Crab prepared the body.

Mt Carmel P T A held its first meeting of the year at the Mt Carmel Schoolhouse despite bad weather. Fifty five finished garments were donated to the Red Cross. The program by Fifth and Sixth Grades included songs, a play Giving Thanks Today and dances. Funds raised from a turkey and candy sale totaled twenty dollars for a basketball. Mrs. Schnieder, president, was absent due to illness.

Surprise Birthday Party For Herschel Male

A large group of relatives and friends gathered Friday evening, November 18, at Herschel Male's Batavia home for a surprise birthday event. Attendees included Hanford Male with family, Esther Male of Monterey, Harold C. Snider and family, Miss Marie White of Monterey, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Male with daughter Ethel, Hugh Weaver, Washington Male, Randolph Reynolds, all of Batavia. The evening featured contests, games, music, and a lunch of ice cream, cake, and coffee.

Red Cross Orders Flour Shipment for Clermont County

The Red Cross secretary announced a new order of 600 barrels of flour sent last Friday for Clermont County. It will arrive in a week or ten days for distribution. Eighteen thousand sacks have already been received and distributed. The Courier reported the Government contribution to the unemployed last week.

In Clermont County 214 teachers and superintendents exist with 186 in the Ohio Education Association and 191 in the Clermont County Teachers Association.
