The Batavia J C 9 F lodge held a Home Coming last Friday evening with attendance above expectations. Judges White and Wooduran see gave brief talks, Brice Hendrixson sang two solos, and city negro minstrels provided humor. Rebekans served a substantial lunch, bringing together members long absent.
About five hundred Republican women from across Ohio will assemble in Columbus on November 15 for the Ohio Council of Republican Women fall business meeting. President Mrs. Wilma Sinclair Le Van of Steubenville will host. Congressman John C. Speake of Columbus will speak on World Peace. Delegates only may participate in the business session, but all Republican women are invited to attend the Victory under. National and state winners are invited as honored guests. Those out of state will send messages.
At the M E church in Owensville on Saturday evening November 17, Lena Snyder wed George W Mull in a ceremony conducted by Rev. Gee Fox. The couple’s reception followed with a luncheon at the bride’s home as the community wishes them a long, happy life together.
The article notes a landslide Republican win in 51 precincts with 40 for Republicans and 1 for Democrats. Myers Y. Cooper leads the ticket with 44 precincts, while Davey carries 7, indicating the head of the ticket governs the presiding judge positions.
Captain James York and his wife hosted a family reunion at their Water street home on November 11. The gathering included 18 attendees and guests H. K. Simons, roadmaster of the N. & W., and his wife and daughter from Winchester. A fine dinner followed and the day was very pleasant.
Public Health Nurse and Bethel Parent Teachers Association completed exams for grades one through six to identify undernourished children and plan free milk. Records show 64 children were three or more pounds under weight. 53 had serious defects. 11 needed an oculist. 85 had slight defects. 35 no defects. Mrs. Ruth Patchell, P.H.N.
On October 27 at Williamsburg Grange Hall about thirty members of the National Grange met to form a permanent organization for annual social events in Clermont County. Officers elected were President F. A. Richle of Miami Grange and Vice President Harvey Perin of Locust Corner Grange. The event honored officers and was organized by Miss Mary Mareh and Alice Boyce with assistance from J. A. Ash tem and wife and Anna Muzzy, secretary.
In Clermont County most polling places complied with election laws as votes were cast. When eight precincts produced sufficient totals, the number of precincts rose to 59. Law requires division of precincts at 400 votes and further steps must be filed with the Election Board.
The term of office for Clerk Claude Coyle is extended to begin the first Monday in January rather than the second Monday in August. The extension adds three years and five months to his tenure, instead of the previously shorter term.

State officers are listed with omitted results from November election returns printed at friends’ request to fill gaps in the table.
Work on seven acres across from the old Batavia Union Cemetery progresses as a new burial ground. Platted lots and crushed stone roads are in place, grading finished, and public access expected soon. The John Dimmitt estate area is being developed under Cemetery Trustees with funds from prior taxes.
About 1500 hunters received licenses on the season's opening day in Clermont County. On Thursday hunters compared notes with no more than five fatalities reported. Rabbit meat sales continued despite health warnings and a ready market at 80 cents. Ducks and pheasants were also pursued. many rabbits hid in thickets and along streams. The legal daily bag limit stands at five rabbits.
The H J King insurance man builds a fine stone house on North street with a green lawn. The old Judge Lee residence nearby will be razed to create a more prominent home site admired by many travelers. King and Mrs King sourced boulders and freestone statewide, enhancing the structure. Expert piano tuning by W O Kirk at 220f.
Bogus check workers strike Clermont County visiting Milford Mt. Healthy and Winchester areas passing checks drawn on the Williamsburg bank. Victims include J C Fuhr and J B White with cash differences taken. Suspect lists include W E Johnson and W E Nelson to H E Miller. Arrests and indictments already made. banks warn merchants to beware.
The Ohio State Tax Commission orders a blanket 15 percent reduction in rural property assessed value in Butler county after data from the County Farm Bureau and Grange shows wide farm sale variances. A joint committee including Charles Aufranc and William Ledwell supplied affidavits. Clermont County Farm Bureau plans a similar bid.
Supper hosted by the Clover church ladies in Williamsburg drew attendees from Cincinnati Batavia and beyond. The event featured generous servings at a moderate price and self service with plans to repeat the menu during holidays. Tax rates for Clermont County and districts appear elsewhere in the paper with comparisons.
Saturday night a Chevrolet coach driven by Eckman Medary Will Shriner Ralph Shriner of Williamsburg skidded on a wet road near Stonelick and overturned into a ten foot ravine. Will Shriner injured near severing jugular vein, Ralph cut on face and head, Medary and three Crosstown girls unhurt. Robert Croswell aided and towed the wreck to a garage. A Ford with three men overturned near Bantam fair grounds. occupants unhurt after police avoided further injury. Traffic disrupted briefly.
Governor-elect Myers Y. Cooper will assume office Monday January 14 1929 after the legislature meets and votes. His first duty is organizing his official family including secretary executive and clerks at set salaries. He will appoint directors for finance commerce highways public works agriculture health industrial relations education and public welfare at 6500 yearly.
A Friday morning pile up on the Grant highway below Amelia involved Bert Simpkins Ruth Goodhue and Louis Kaelin all badly bruised Miss Goodhue suffered multiple arm fractures while Simpkins and Goodhue were rushed to Bethesda hospital after medical aid. Another skid by A M Johnson of Norwood into the ditch ignited a car fire and nearby grass fire prompting talk the State Highway Department will be asked to address the danger at this site.
Local rabbit hunters flocked afield last week ignoring disease fears to bag five rabbits in a single day. Warm weather raises concerns about meat preservation after the hunt.
Comedy and drama in three acts presented at Goshen town hall on Thursday and Friday nights November 22 and 28 to benefit the Ladies Aid of the Goshen M E church. Admission adults 25 cents children 16 cents. Committee notes.
Farm Bureau News reports Ohio holds the sixth largest dairy cow total among major states with 9 171 cows in cow testing associations producing 7 451 pounds of milk and 315 pounds butterfat. It notes a dairy surplus and compares costs of high producing cows to gains, and also surveys tobacco prices and acreage trends, plus 4-H forestry clubs seed collection and reforestation efforts in Harrison, Athens and Preble counties.
The Clermont Courier spotlights Simon Girty, a Pennsylvanian dubbed a white savage for his frontier raids in Kentucky and Ohio during the Revolution era. Elmo Scott Watson authors the feature, offering a new view of the notorious renegade.
Elmwood School hosts an evening of short plays dialogues songs and recitations on Saturday November 2 starting 8 o clock. The program features a black faced play The Dusky Heiress and a song You Never Lay With You Again. Following the show refreshments including ice cream cakes pies popcorn and sandwiches will be sold.
