The LaMontrye Mfg Co of New Richmond turned down a $100000 bonus to move their garment hanger factory to South Montrye, Pennsylvania after a nearby plant burned. Thirteen years earlier residents had provided $50000 in bonds and a $5000 local bonus to keep the New Richmond operation thriving, with as many as 150 workers.
The Laymen Association of the Hillsboro District met at Batavia M E church with over 100 members from every county. They enjoyed a supper by the Ladies Guild and songs led by Mrs Harmount. J H Finney of Portsmouth gave an able talk. Next gathering set for Georgetown on December 15.
Young people from Clermont County plan to attend the 18th annual conference of the Young People Division at Loveland all day Saturday November 22. The event titled Forward Together includes an afternoon registration and an evening banquet with registration 1.50.
H L Britton led a Flint Michigan party of seven in six days on the Algoma River 126 miles north of Sault Ste Marie Ontario. They killed four moose, including a 6 ft 10 in spread bull weighing 870 lbs and a 680 lb bull by M Britton. Weather in Ontario was unusually mild for November and snow had melted. The law allows one kill per hunter and shipment only for personal use with license certification.
As weather shifts to winter, indoor miniature golf emerges in many towns. The Courseritiret notes Batavia considers starting an indoor course, reflecting a growing trend in popular golf entertainment.
Clermont County Grand Jury in session Monday ordered all slot machines to cease operation by Saturday November 22. Sheriff and deputies instructed to clear them. 50 witnesses examined across 18 cases, 115 bills found, 2 ignored, 1 continued. A new jail plumbing system and cell block painting recommended. An investigation into slot machine gambling to begin Saturday and a report due at next meeting. Public building labeled tire hazard prompting immediate safety review. Bills list includes Roland Strong drawing check, Allen Smith carrying concealed weapons, Howard Price larceny, Edward Price larceny, Homer Shannon abandonment of children, Wilber Hoyt Gardner abandonment of legitimate children, Thomas Barry abandoning legitimate children, George Gregory abandoning legitimate children, R.8. Chaffin forgery four counts, Ray Blackburn failure to stop for school bus, Robert Sharp pointing firearms, Ray Perry destroying property malice.
The M E Church extends sympathy to the Robinson family and invites all to a Union Thanksgiving service on Wednesday November 26 at 7 30 pm with Rev Ludwick of the U B church delivering the sermon. Frank D Hitchcock of near Amelia runs a large Gold Fish farm with 83 ponds in spring and thousands of fish shipped to the United States and Canada. Drought forced transfers reducing 16 ponds to waterless condition and fish moved to state hatcheries. He praises state courtesy and expects restocking when rain returns.

Warrie Smith Flanders sister of Ed Smith formerly of Amelia suffers two broken vertebrae and ribs in an auto accident in Nebraska City. Her husband also injured with a broken pelvis and their daughter Ruth fractures her wrist. All are slowly recovering at St. Marys Hospital.
Rumor says Bell Telephone Co. warehouse and supply department, previously in Williamsburg, will move to Batavia. They have leased the Spring Street building, erected by R. S. Coyle and now owned by Howard Ayer, for five years with option. The structure will house offices, wareroom, and parts storage on two levels with large show windows.
Thousands of Ohio fruit trees yearly fail to rodent injury. Preventive care in late fall includes clearing grass and litter from tree bases, mounding dirt for drainage, and using cinders to deter mice. Cheap guards, repellents, and U S Department of Agriculture bait aid growers. H N Wilson offers bait at cost.
Owners of the burned ground in Williamsburg consider rebuilding. Mr. Fishback runs a small harness factory and has started a brick two storey building with a store room on the first floor and the factory on the second. The site lies beside the Bank building.
W O Robinson of Batavia died Thursday after weeks of sickness at age seventy. Survived by a widow, brother Frank Hitch of New York, and two Batavia sisters Miss Lillian Robinson and Mrs J M Wiseman. Formerly a Clement school teacher and Perintown merchant, he belonged to the Masons and I O O F. Funeral Saturday at 2 from his residence with burial in Union Cemetery.
The Batavia Woman's Club presents Such Faith as launched and sped with Psalm and prayer. Includes Bible verses and The Bible in the Light of Modern Research. Mrs. Jennie M. Bryan conducts music The Puritan Anthem with Miss Adelaide Reed hosting.
Campaign for Red Cross membership opened Sunday night at Batavia United Brethren Church with a large audience. Judge Nichols announced the Clemont chapter’s purpose, followed by Mrs. Massey detailing relief work for the unfortunate. Cards were passed for membership. Olecioai’s quota is 8000. Rev. Ludwich and Rev. Cherrington led prayers.
Enthusiasm ran high as Farm Bureau workers gathered November 10 in the Grant Memorial Building Bethel. Allen Harris organized the fish fry and Mrs Ruth Stevn spoke on the Farm Bureau’s value to farmers. John Burkhard Sr led in signing the most prospects as county groups planned next steps.
Batavia opened the season with both girls and boys games against Bethel. The girls lost 32 to 17 despite strong play from both sides and a large visiting delegation. The Batavia boys won 27 to 15 as the crowd gave them a warm reception. Next Friday New Richmond teams visit Batavia for renewed competition.
Probate Court of Clermont County Ohio on November 6 1930 reviewed Mothers' Pension applications led by Homer C Johnson Probation Officer. The court found named mothers entitled to pensions and allocated 2100 00 from the Mothers' Pension Fund to individual recipients with amounts listed per mother and number of children.
Victor Gaskins of Batavia Ohio reports Chevrolet will build and sell five hundred thousand cars in 1931 after attending a Cincinnati dealer meeting with H J Klingler. He says area sales will exceed 1930 by more than two percent as surveys show improving business and a strong late winter spring rush.
Charles Johnson 26 of Cincinnati faces first degree murder trial in Georgetown Brown county for the May death of Robert Clemons 68 at the victim’s nearby home. Co defendants include Charles Cramer 81 Hamilton executed, John Zellar 24 Louisville once sentenced to die December 10, and Fred Davis 26 Cincinnati awaiting trial. Johnson’s father Sebo R. Rauscher Bros. Miami Peps, a top Clermont independent team, face the Norwood Ducks in the second game of the season at Bata Via Armory tonight at 8 p.m. Admission is 60 cents.
