Freight train accident at Duckwall’s trestle
A west bound Norfolk and Western freight train broke a coupling bolt at Duckwall’s trestle near Batavia causing the train to part. Brakeman Nicholas Delotella of Portsmouth was thrown from the top of cars, breaking both arms. Doctors Van Horn and Ashburn attended him at Clermont Hotel where his injuries were treated. He remains in hospital.

Official crop reports show Ohio wheat sowed at 1 721 030 acres up from 1 711 047 last year yet yields may be below average due to late seeding and cool weather. Early wheat looks promising but many fields are still emerging. risk grows if winter is severe. Alfalfa production exceeds 1908 by 12 184 tons with 68 269 acres seeded. Corn prospects rise 8 percent to 90 percent of average though husking is uneven in places.
