Clermont County residents buy many No Hunting signs as landowners report hunters menacing homes with stray shots damaging livestock and fences. The Courier notes safety messages, military notices, local lore, and upcoming holidays including Christmas shopping days and Armistice Day reflections.
Cler mont County will not place an 800000 hospital bond issue on May ballots. Ohio law restricts bond votes to November elections, as County Auditor Kincaid noted. Commissioners Houser and Hill discussed moving the measure to 1952 primaries, but no second was given and the idea was dropped.
After a week long session the Clermont County Grand Jury returned 32 indictments and no bills in 21 cases. Key actions include a true bill against William F. Wells for the death of Mrs. Alice Mae Morrell in a Williams burg auto crash and a second degree murder charge against Eloise Howard ignored. Indictments span breaking and entering larceny and illegal alcohol issues among others with a total of 111 witnesses questioned.
Clermont County residents urge action as a dump on Rumpke Road near Glen Este remains open despite a Board of Health order to close by November 10. Owner Claude L. Jackson seeks injunction via Common Pleas Judge Harry Britton to halt enforcement until a hearing.
Donald W. Heberle 35 of Apple Road Amelia was killed Saturday morning when a 30 foot tree he tried to fell with a tractor fell and fractured his skull on a parent farm. Heberle attached a chain between the tractor and tree and last spoke at 10 30 am before being found near noon with the tractor running. Dr V J Sperling pronounced the death and he is survived by his parents and a sister Muriel. Services were held Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home Batavia with interment Lucy Run Cemetery near Amelia. Friends of Private Ralph H Lindsey serving in Germany wish to receive letters from home at his APO New York address.
Clermont County Draft Board to induct thirteen men into military service on Tuesday amid pre induction physicals in Cincinnati. List includes Hanford A. Thirey Monterey Lloyd W. Reeve Mulberry and others with many from Batavia Milford Amelia and New Richmond areas.
Batavia opens a Bloodmobile drive at the Fellowship Hall Batavia Presbyterian Church 1 to 7 pm with 200 donors pledged. Organizers say the response will likely exceed the 110 pint quota and some pledges may be deferred for health reasons. Transportation provided. solicitors from Rotary American Legion Batavia Jr. Woman's Club and others.
S SGT JOHN P. Bayer of Batavia is stationed at San Marcos AFB Texas after a 23 month Okinawa tour. PVT George F. Davis of Milford is at Lackland AFB undergoing basic training on a four year enlistment. Major Donald C. McGraw of Mt Carmel returned from over two years in the Pacific area and Korea and will report to Fort Benning. PVT Earl E. Erson of Batavia completes basic indoctrination at Lackland. Homer M. Seibert Jr USN, aboard USS Rochester, saw Mauna Loa activity in Hawaii and Kilohana Crater visit during 198 days of Korean War duty.
Batavia mayor proclaims November 11 to 17 1951 as Recruitment Week for Women in the Army Navy Air Force and Marine Corps urging local women to answer the call to share service for freedom and defend against Communist aggression.
