A light frost ends the tomato season in Batavia area while an unseasonably warm autumn lingers. The piece notes photography tech and a watch repair desk at Jim Morner’s studio as well as the upcoming Batavia Charity Ball on December 6 organized by the Junior Women, who anticipate a successful social event.
Batavia High School basketball opened with a 63 to 28 win over Felicity. Richard Wuerdeman led Batavia with 17 points, Don Jacobs added 16, while Felicity’s Day led their scoring with 7. Batavia reserves won 36 to 15. Next game is November 14 at New Richmond.
The Mt Orab and Felicity Merchants opened the 1947-48 Clermont County Basketball League with a Sunday game at Mt Orab where Felicity edged Mt Orab 61 to 59. Upcoming: New Richmond Legion at Williamsburg and Owensville on Thursday November 13.
The Clermont Courier subscription contest ends Monday after a month. The 6th grade at Amelia School led by teacher Stanley Anstedt won the top prize of 100 dollars plus liberal commissions. Other winners will be notified once all returns are tallied.

Demonstrations in Clermont County with Ohio State University officials drew strong farmer participation, highlighting that higher tobacco prices come from accurate grading and keeping leaves properly dried.
Three Clermont County artists will be included in the annual regional Exhibition of the Artists of Cincinnati and Vicinity at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Byron Ross, chairman of the Clermont County Agricultural Conservation Committee, announces nomination meetings for the election of Agricultural Conservation Community committeemen and delegates to the county convention for choosing a county committee will be held in Clermont County over the coming weeks.
The colonel resigns from the New Richmond post effective November 15. He has served 11 years as village marshal and was deputy sheriff for Clermont County for a number of years.
The Batavia Junior Woman's Club organizes its annual Charity Ball at the Batavia Armory on December 6 from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Snyder provides music. Proceeds fund a local playground project. A new dress will be awarded as a prize during the event.
Gerald Lanham age 17 of Bethel admitted killing his uncle Louis Butcher on November 1 in an alleged act to protect his mother. He has been sent to Columbus for physical and mental tests and official action awaits test results.
A lawsuit filed against Edward Franz of Ohio Pike by W. I. Trucking Company was settled out of court through the firm of Franz, Nichols, Speidel & Nichols of Betavia, with attorneys handling the matter.
The Newtown P. T. A. will meet at 1 30 p m on Friday November 14 in the school auditorium with Theresa Kirby as guest speaker.
Dudley Wagers faced a Common Pleas Court judge on moving mortgaged property between states and had the case dismissed. Howard DeBruler received a deferred sentence after changing his plea to guilty on an assault charge. A new trial motion was filed for Alexander Sizemore, who was on trial Monday. Two men, James Blanton and Robert Gordon, are to be taken to the State Penitentiary Thursday from Clermont County jail for motor vehicle taking and theft charges respectively.
The Clermont County delinquent land tax list is published in this paper with total delinquencies near 49000 dollars. Some increases over last year are shown but overall county delinquencies remain about the same. A Milk Producers Union meeting is set for 8:00 PM Friday November 14 at Batavia Court House.
Clermont County Republican Women's Club meets November 17 at 8 p.m. in Odd Fellows Hall with State Senator Kyle F. Brooks as guest. Auction and social hour follow.
